Overview
Mastercard is introducing default intracountry interchange rates in Peru.
Mastercard sets interchange rates to encourage the issuance and acceptance of its payment products
and with the purpose of providing an efficient and safe payment service to consumers and merchants, by
increasing the number of issuers, acquirers, and payment facilitators participating in the Mastercard
payment network.
Intracountry interchange rates apply to domestic transactions initiated with a Mastercard® or Maestro®
card issued and acquired in the same country.
Customer Impact
Dual Message System acquirers and their processors must submit clearing transactions to Mastercard in
accordance with the interchange structure in place. Transactions that do not meet the interchange
criteria will be rejected.
Note:
To qualify for Medium and Large tier interchange rates, a six-digit Mastercard Assigned ID is required
