Safety requirements and/or protective measures 54 General Series hoists mechanism with AFDs can be used in a wide range of speeds with variable acceleration and deceleration and different maximum loads with respect to the maximum speed. The manufacturer of series hoists mechanism with AFDs shall observe the particular load effects due to variable speed controlling when dimensioning drives and brakes. To supply the drive motors with electric energy, the availability of mains supply as well as continuous function of the inverter are needed. Measures to avoid hazards or reduce risks induced by interruption of power supply shall also cover the inverter. Overloading a hoist AFD during hoisting motion can lead to uncontrolled acceleration of the load. The holst manufacturer shall provide measures which prevent this hazardous situation or stop uncontrolled motion, 52 Electrical power supply ‘The requirements of clauses 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 of EN 60204-32 shall apply. NOTE When applying collector bars with sliding contacts for power supply, double current collec- tors are recommended to avoid interruptions in electrical supply. This includes also the con- nection between inverter and motor. Refer also to IEC 61800-2, Annex B8. 53 Physical environment and operating conditions ‘The provisions of clause 4.4 of EN 60204-32 and the following requirements shall apply, 83.4 Ambient air temperature NOTE Beyond the temperature range given in 4.4.3 of EN 60204-32 a different range can be speci- fied between user and manufacturer. Outdoor cranes may need a wider temperature range of -20°C to 55°C. NOTE Temperature tise within enclosures should be considered when inverter units are installed inside. 5.3.2 Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) To comply with the requirements of EN 50081-2 and EN 0082-2 the provisions of clause 4.4.2 of EN 60204-32 and IEC 61800-3 shall apply. 54 Protection against electric shock To avoid electric shock due to leakage current induced by AFDs, special care shall be taken to ensure continuous protective earth bonding. The mechanical brake shall be designed to sustain as a minimum a load test of emergency stop cycles with nominal rated load at nominal lowe- fing speed in a time period of 10 minutes without failure ‘The emergency stopping with any possible speed and load combination shall not cause any hazard in- cluding the cases where the AFD is intended to operate above the nominal speed. In case the maximum allowable speed depends on load and there is only one overspeed limit triggering the safety device, the brake shall be dimensioned according to the full rated load and that overspeed limit NOTE Topics to be considered include allowed speediload combinations of the mechanical brakes, time delays in the system (particularly brake delays), mechanical speed limit of the machin- ery, reliabilty of load measurementiestimation The release of the brake shall be interlocked with the inverter so that disengagement of the brake is pre- vented unless electric power is applied to the motor. NOTE With AFDs the automatic engagement of the brake in the case of a power failure is met when the inverter is equipped with undervoltage protection of the DC bus as required ac- cording to clause 5.6.5, Operational braking can be effected by electrical dynamic braking or electrical regenerative braking or mechanical braking, Where operational braking is effected by electrical dynamic braking or electrical re- generative braking, the brake can be dimensioned with respect to the use as an emergency stop brake. NOTE The mechanical efficiency of the machinery can be taken into account when determining the required brake torque. 5.5.1.3 Inverter ‘The inverter shall be selected with respect to the current drawn by the motor at rated load of the applica- tion and under foreseeable load variations. The inverter short ime overload capacity may be used for acceleration as defined by the manufacturer of the inverter. NOTE The thermal capacity of semiconductors limits the permissible duration for overloading. Safe operation of an AFD for hoisting requires monitoring of the motor speed to provide sufficient motor torque under actual operating conditions, Unstable conditions shall be detected and lead to automatic stop. Motor speed monitoring may not be requited, if occurrence of overspeed is prevented by design. Seite 8 FEM 9.752 (07.2003) Bra (or shall be capable of absorbing the generative eneray when lowering the maximum load at maximum speed. The maximum time of the thermal load shall be calculated according to the hook path of the hoist. The failure of the braking resistor shall lead to automatic stop of the hoisting motor. In such cases the dimensioning of the feedback converter shall be made accordingly. 56 Safety functions and protective devices Safety functions shall initiate. category 0 or category 1 stop according to EN 60204-32 clause 9.2.2 in case of tipping. 56.1 Motor overspeed protection The hoist AFD shall be equipped with motor overspeed protection to avoid exceeding the permissible speed range of the drive in order to prevent uncontrolled movement of the load or any damage. The overspeed protection shall prevent the motor from reaching the mechanical limit speed when moving any load up to the nominal rated load of the hoist. The trigger limit ofthe overspeed protection should not exceed 1.2 times the specified speed at nominal load, When utlising field weakening with a derated load the trigger limit can be adjusted to higher values not exceeding 1,2 times the specified speed for that load. See also 5.5.1.2 ‘The safety function of the overspeed protection shall comply with safety category 1 if hardwired or safety category 2 of EN 954-1 if not hardwired, 5.6.2 Thermal protection of motors As an exception to FEM 9.751, 5.13.4, thermal protection of motors may be needed where low speeds can lead to insufficient cooling. in that case measures shall be taken to prevent the motor from overhea- ting (See IEC 61800-2, Annex A.2). Seite 10 FEM 9.752 (07.2003) NOTE Appropriate measures can be, for example: = Limiting the duty oycle at low speeds, = Measuring or detecting the motor temperature and stopping the motor, Fan cooling. 56.3 Overcurrent protection The output current of the inverter to the motor shall be limited to protect the power switches and the elec- tric wiring from overloading and short circuit. Overcurrent protection of the inverter shail not lead to unin- tended or uncontrolled acceleration of the corespondent drive. NOTE Setting the current limit for overcurrent protection close to the short time overload capacity of the inverter may induce hazards on hoisting drives In case of multi-motor drives the overcurrent protection of the feeding inverter may lead to overloading a single branch cable which has a short circuit failure. Additional protective measures or dimensioning of branch cables with respect to the maximum short circuit current are required, 564 Overvoltage protection of the DC bus When dynamic o regenerative electrical braking is used, the voltage of the inverter DC bus might exceed the permissible limit, e.g. in the case of failure of the braking resistor or feedback converter. To avoid subsequent loss of control of the drive, the overvoltage protection shall initiate the stop function of the AFD. 56.5 Protection against supply interruption or voltage reduct The inverter of an AFD needs a minimum input voltage to supply the AC motor. To avoid insufficient voltage supply of the AC motor inducing loss of motor torque, the inverter shall be equipped with under- voltage protection of the DC bus. The undervoltage protection shall ensure safe operation for example by reducing speed oF initiating the stop function. 56.6 Lit ‘Where the lifting force limiting is integrated into the control of the inverter of the AFD, it shall comply with, FEM 9.751, clause 5.2.2. ing force limiters 567 Motion iters ‘Motion limiters for the hoisting and travelling motion of series hoist mechanisms shall comply with EN 12077-2 and FEM 8.751.
