Unit-III MULTIPLE INTEGRALS Handout
Synopsis:
The definite integral measures the area under the curve and the ordinates with
respective to the X-Axis.
A double and triple integral is its counterpart in two and three dimensions respectively.
The double integral defined over a region R in a plane . Where as the triple integral defined
over a finte region V of three dimensions. The multiple integrals are very much useful to
calculate areas, volumes and center of gravity etc... The concept is also useful to simplify the
double integration in a simple way by introducing the change of order and change of variables.
The notation of Double integral is ∬ , where R is the given regions
The notation of Triple integral is ∭ , , over the Region V. where dxdydz =dv
Note : While calculating the double integrals the following rules must be followed.
∫ ∫ ydydx
1.Evaluate 0 0
5.Evaluate ∫∫∫ ( x + y + z )dxdydz over the tetrahedron bounded by the co-ordinate planes and
the plane x+y+z=1
6. Evaluate ∬ dy over the region bounded by Xaxis, ordinate x=2a and the curve x2 =
4ay
∞
7. Evaluate by changing the order of integration dy dx
10. By changing the order of integration ,Evaluate ∬ ,where is R is the region
bounded by = and =
