INFERENTIAL STATISTICS
Work with the assumption that your sampling distribution is normal. You can determine your
statistical test by answering these questions.

1. Is the hypothesis Null or Alternative?

Ans:
This is the Null hypothesis

“There is no significant difference between lectures, small group discussions, and large group
discussions in terms of math achievement scores for 6th graders.”

2. Is the hypothesis a comparison of groups or the relationship of variables?

Ans:
The hypothesis is group comparison since they are different entities that are compared with each
other to know that either there is significant difference in scores got by teaching with different
methods or there is no difference.

3. How many independent and dependent variables do you have?

Ans:
. The independent variables are three (lectures, small group discussion, and large group
discussion). The dependent variable is one (math scores).
4. Is the independent variable categorical or continuous?
Ans:
The independent variable is categorical.
5. Is the dependent variable categorical or continuous?
Ans:
The dependent variable is continuous. The students’ math scores are variable depending on the
lectures, small and large group discussions’ ability to teach the mathematics concepts.

Determination of Statistical Test

After finding answers of above all questions and following criteria we find that ANOVA test
will be applied to test this hypothesis
