V E T I U Q A N TA T I

- A kind of research that simply

concerned with numbers and its
relationships with events.
QUANTITATIVE

- A kind of research that simply

concerned with numbers and its
relationships with events.
What is Quantitative Research?

It is an objective, systematic empirical

investigation of observable phenomena through the
use of computational techniques.
It highlights numerical analysis of data hoping
that the numbers yield unbiased results that can be
generalized to some larger population and explain a
particular observation.
What is Quantitative Research?

It is a systematic investigation that leads

to the generation of a new conclusion.
Characteristics of Quantitative
Research

1. OBJECTIVE

It seeks accurate measurement and analysis

of target concepts. It is not based on intuitions and
guesses.
Characteristics of Quantitative
Research

2. CLEARLY DEFINED
RESEARCH QUESTIONS.

The researchers know in advance what they

are looking for. The research questions are clearly
defined for which objective answers are sought.
Characteristics of Quantitative
Research

3. STRUCTURED RESEARCH
INSTRUMENTS

Data are usually gathered through

questionnaire to seek also the characteristics of
population such as age, gender, socio-economic etc.
Characteristics of Quantitative
Research

4. NUMERICAL DATA

Data are in the form of numbers and statistics often

organized and presented using tables, charts, graphs and figures.
Characteristics of Quantitative
Research

5. LARGE SAMPLE SIZES

To arrive with more reliable data analysis, a

normal population distribution curve is preferred.
Characteristics of Quantitative
Research

6. REPLICATION

Reliable quantitative studies can be

repeated to verify the correctness of the results in
another setting.
Characteristics of Quantitative
Research

7. FUTURE OUTCOMES

By using complex mathematical

calculations, scenarios may be formulated thus
predicting future results.
Strengths of Quantitative Research

1. It is OBJECTIVE. It can’t be easily

manipulated and misinterpreted.
Strengths of Quantitative Research

2. The use of STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES

facilitates sophisticated analysis and allows you
to comprehend huge amount of vital information.
Strengths of Quantitative Research

3. EASY TO INTERPRET. Since it uses

numerical data.
Which between these two sets of statements is easier or
quicker to understand? Justify your point.

Set A – Ninety five (95%) of the examinees passed the

licensure exams. Twenty pages of the book contain
grammatically incorrect sentences.

Set B – A big number of examinees passed the

licensure exams. Several pages of the book contain
grammatically incorrect sentences.
Strengths of Quantitative Research

4. EASY TO CONSOLIDATE. Figurative

data are used in quantitative research.
Strengths of Quantitative Research

5. It is REPLICABLE. This type of research

can be replicated in different location to
have a comparable findings.
Weaknesses of Quantitative Research

1. It requires LARGE AMOUNT OF

RESPONDENTS.It is more statistically
accurate.

2. It is quite EXPENSIVE. Especially in

producing the questionnaires.
Weaknesses of Quantitative Research

3. Information that are CONTEXTUAL FACTORS

to help interpret the results are usually IGNORED.

4. Many information are difficult to gather using structured

research instruments, specifically on sensitive issues.

5.If not done seriously and completely, data from

questionnaires may be INCOMPLETE AND
INACCURATE.
Let’s wrap up!
What are the characteristics of a
quantitative research?
Srengths? Weaknesses?
2 Basic Types of Quantitative
Research

1.Experimental Research
2.Non-Experimental Research
TYPES OF QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH

1.EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH

-This kind uses scientific method and is concerned primarily with the
cause and effect relationships in studies that involve manipulation or
control of the independent variables and measurement of the
dependent variables.
-The researcher uses a control group to be compared to the
experimental group of respondents.

Example: Testing the new instructional material in teaching the

Grade 11 students
- The researcher will divide the respondents into two groups. The
control group will use the old instructional material, the experimental
group will use the new instructional material.
TYPES OF QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH

2. NON-EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH

-This is a way of finding the truth about a subject by describing the

collected data and determining their relationships or connections with
one another.
-Any treatment or condition is not involved in this type but there is a
measuring of variables.
Basic Types of NON-EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH

SURVEY RESEARCH

It is used to gather information from the group of people by

selecting and studying samples chosen from a population for arriving
at a certain conclusion about societal concern and issues.

Example:

determining the level of customers satisfaction on the quality of service

offered by online shops

tracking of the Curriculum Exits of Grade 12 Students of Tanay Senior High School
SY 2019-2020
Basic Types of NON-EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH

DESCRIPTIVE RESEARCH. It is concerned with describing the

nature, characteristics and components of the population or a
phenomenon.
> No manipulation of variables.
> Search for cause and effect relationship related to the
phenomenon.

Example:
determining the level of awareness of parents in the
implementation of modular distance learning in Tanay
Senior High School
Basic Types of NON-EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH

CORRELATIONAL RESEARCH. It is the systematic

investigation of the nature of relationships or association
among variables without investigating into causal reasons
underlying them.
> concerned with the extent of relationships that
exists among the variables.

Example: If pre-assessment exam results can be used to

predict the performance in National Certificate
Assessment, then the higher the pre-assessment results,
the higher the possible results in the National Assessment.
Basic Types of NON-EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH

EVALUATION RESEARCH. It aims to assess the effects,

impact or outcomes of practices, policies or programs.

Example: Assessing the implementation of Modular

Distance Learning Modality Program of DepEd in Tanay
Senior High School and determining the impact of the
program to the learners.

Assessing the Science Laboratory of Tanay Senior HS

Identify the type of Research being described by the given
statement.

1.It describes the nature, characteristics and components of the

population or a phenomenon.

2. It aims to assess the effects, impact or outcomes of practices,

policies or programs.

3. It is concerned with the extent of relationships that exists among the

variables.

4. A kind of quantitative research that applies a treatment with the

subject or object of the study to determine the effect of the treatment on
the subject.

5. It is used to gather information from the group of people by selecting

and studying samples chosen from a population for arriving at a certain
conclusion about societal concern and issues.
