The Leader as Storyteller Workshop

The structure of a great story:

Preparation
What is the story about? Who are the primary characters? Where does it take
place? What background information does the listener/audience need to know in
order to enjoy the story? What is the frame of the story? How does it connect to
larger themes?

Action
What event or action catalyzes the story? What specific moment changes the
trajectory of the story? How do the main characters feel about the event as it is
happening?

Struggle
After the main event/action, how do the characters struggle? What changes in
their lives and how do they adapt? What are they wrestling with after the action?
What other ripple effects did the main event have? Did it affect others beyond
the main characters?

Turn
How do the characters overcome their struggles? What choices do they make to
move forward? What moment turns things around?

Outcome
What is the aftermath of the story? What does it teach us? What did the
characters learn and when did they learn it? How have the characters changed?
