DIARY OF APOLINARIO MABINI

23rd of September 1902

Yesterday, at past eleven in the morning, there was a very strong earthquake, the strongest and longest that
I have felt in my life. This was followed by others of lesser intensity, occurring at intervals of 15 to 20 until this
morning.

They say the tremor destroyed the following:

The two stone houses of the Filipino proprietor, Don Eulogio de la Cruz, which were completely destroyed; the house
occupied by Messrs. Gerona and Dimayuga; another one occupied by Messrs. Trías and Simón Tecson; the new civil
hospital; two stone houses occupied by the club; and the tribunal-house presently occupied by the Court.

-Batay sa kanyang pangyayari sa buhay isinulat nya tong talaarawan nya upang
maipabahagi nya sa atin kung ano ang nangyari nung araw nayon. Isinulat nya din ang mga
taong na salanta ng trahedya ito

DIARY OF BASILIO J. VALDES

September 14, 1969 — Sunday
I had a fair night. No dyspnea. Sleep was quite good without any medication. I got up at 5:15 a.m.

Shaved, took my shower and attended the special private mass at 6:30 a.m. at San Beda, private chapel.

Returned home for breakfast and afterwards took my morning nap. It is now 11 a.m. and I have some

discomforting dyspnea. I will take oxygen inhalation.

DIARY OF SALVADOR H. LAUREL

I met with Cory to decide the choice of Cabinet members per our agreement. At this time Cory and I

were in close consultation. We were meeting everyday, sometimes twice a day –mainly on the choice of

Cabinet members and urgent priority items to act on. I submitted names on the basis of our agreement that

there would be close consultation of the composition of the Cabinet. At this point I noticed that she was not

following our agreement. She rejected my recommendations except for one (H. Perez). (She cannot decide).

DIARY OF CHARLES MOCK

Your package was most welcome and the santan jam was welcome as sugar… But no notes or anything and its
tough when the British are receiving anywhere form one to 2 dozen letters apiece. I’d just like to hear enough to tell
me that I can marry you anytime. Maybe next time! Dr. Leach is on the repatriation list and has promised to tell my
NY boss all about things here. I hope he does so. We had hot cakes with your jam today and we’re stuffed—it’s good
to be that way once in a while, Bill and I are hungry most of the time. We stuff with rice but it doesn’t do much good
after an hour or so. I’m still at 152 lbs. or slightly less and have an idea that you’ll have to take me out of this place
before I ever gain any weight. If s hard to believe that I’m 15-20 lbs. under what I was 2 years ago. Eggs 30 cents
apiece, peanuts 35 cent half pint and fellows stood in line for half an hour to buy one banana for 5 cents.
