Pretty Little Lairs

Pretty little Lairs is a series that follows the lives of four teenage girls - Aria,
Spencer, Hanna and Emily they are four estranged friends whose darkest
secrets are about to unravel. The first episode aired on 8th June 2010 and
ended on the 27th June 2017. The series stars are Troian Bellisario (Spencer
Hastings), Ashley Benson (Hanna Marin), Lucy Hale (Aria Montgomery), Shay
Mitchell (Emily Fields) and Sasha Pieterse (Alison DiLaurentis). The gene of the
show is Mystery and it is rated 12. The show is mostly rated at teens but could
be watched by the older generations. The last episode of PLL was watched by
75% adults 18-49. Pretty little liars have been nominated for many awards
included2014 Best TV Show - Young Hollywood Awards, 2014 Best Cast
Chemistry – TV -Young Hollywood Awards, 2011 Cast To Watch Award,
People's Choice Awards (9), Teen Choice Awards (25) and GLAAD Media Award
(3). They have also won several awards including the People's Choice Awards
(2), Teen Choice Awards (30), and Young Hollywood Awards (1). Pretty little
lairs have many spin off shows including, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists,
Ravenswood and Pretty Dirty Secrets. The story of Pretty Little Liars: The
Perfectionists is in the town of Beacon Heights everything appears perfect until
a mysterious figure and a murder wreak havoc that sets off a chain reaction
threatening to unravel every perfectionist's secrets. There has only been one
season of this spin off only lasted one season and was aired on the network
Freeform. Ravenswood was a drama which centres on a town called
Ravenswood, which has suffered under a deadly curse for generations. This
also only lasted one season and was aired on Freeform. Pretty Dirty Secrets
was an American mystery web series from the television series. The web series
was part of the Pretty Little Liars franchise and takes place between the events
of the series and again only lasted for one season. Pretty Little Lairs has had
major success and is watched globally. Part of the reason PLL did so well is
because so much of its audience is comprised of social-media natives so
viewers in their teens and early 20s who've never really known a world where
they couldn't post, tweet, or Instagram their reactions to a show therefore
increasing this popularly. The network Freeform the audience that the show
attracted at its peak was nearly 4 million at one point. The series remained a
powerhouse for Freeform right up until the very end. According to Vulture the
most rated PPL episode is UnmAsked (Season 2, episode 25). In this episode
the reveal of Mona as the original A is the most logical and fulfilling twist in
PLL’s history. The motive that she suffered from jealousy and internal torment
that Hannah prioritized a friendship with the girls over her. The series finale of
Pretty Little Liars tied for 20th place in the same-day cable ratings for the week
of June 26. With a few days of DVR viewing, it moves into the top 10. Although
PPL’s is a Teen series many parents have complained about the age rating on
the show. Some parents would say the show is to be twisted for younger
viewers. Also, viewers believed that parts of the series just never made sense.
For example. There were no alarm systems after the many times of
kidnappings and tortured and the family still did not install a security system
and how Spencer managed to figure out a phone number from a singing bird.
PLL has many merchandises include clothing, cups, keyrings, posters, jewellery,
phone cases and bags. The merch is targeted to teenagers as the design of the
merch has a more younger style and very bold and colourful. The series has
very good quality of lighting, sound and filming. For sound the shows builds the
tensity of the scenes from either having total silence or eery music in the
background. The lighting is normal onto there is a climate build up and the girl
is in a danger as there are a lot of black, dark colour and shadows used.
Example of lighting used in PPL are, a high key-scene is flooded with light and
very bright, a low key-scene is flooded with shadows and darkness creates
suspicion, bottom or side-direct lighting from below or side which creates
subject to appear evil and a front or back lighting-soft lighting on actor which
gives effect of innocence. There are multiple angles used then filming Pretty
Little Lairs for example. A medium shot-a shot from medium distance with
grounds the story, an extreme close up, a high angle this makes the actor that
the camera is above look weak, powerless, or trapped, long/ shot establishing
shot which sets the scene, The two shot with is a scene filmed between two
people from an angle.
