ANNOTATION
“I, Robot” is a novel of science fiction by American writer Isaac Asimov.
This novel has nine short stories that may or may not be connected with each
other but it`s have common theme.
The main idea of this novel is the robots’ influence on humanity and
humans’ attitude to steel humanlike machines with artificial intelligence. Isaac
Asimov created robots peaceful and made them three rules and named it “Three
Laws of Robotic”
1. A robot may not injure a human, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human except orders would
conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence if it does not conflict with the First
and Second Laws.
This laws appear in each story and it’s very important to know them.
So, the first story is “Robbie” and the plot is about Weston family and a
nursemaid robot called Robbie for their daughter Gloria.

Gloria really loves this robot and parents were very disturbed about it because
they thought it’s not normal, the robot can’t be a friend to human. They decided
to give back Robbie to the factory. So Mr. Weston returned Robbie. Gloria lost
her only friend and ceases smiling enjoying life and just be happy. Robbie was
to her like real friend so that was a big lost. Parents decided to send Gloria to
New-York to forget about robot. Gloria had visited “NY Robot Factory” and
saw Robbie as a factory worker. She was surprised of that and parents allowed
her to buy this robot again.
The second story called “Runaround” and it’s a bit different and tells us
about Powell, Donovan and their robot Speedy. They were sent to Mercury on
the missile to the mining station which was abandoned many years ago. The
Mercury Station wasn’t working because the selenium ended and without which
the station cannot work. Powell and Donovan decided to send Speedy to the
nearest selenium lake which was too dangerous so they couldn’t go by
themselves. They lost Speedy from their radars. When they finally got signal
from robot they discover he is making circles around the lake. Powell realize
that the selenium source has danger to the robots too. So Speedy cannot obey the
order because it conflict with third law and that is the reason why he was like
drunk
The third story and the last I have read called “Reason” and tells us about
space station drifting on the orbit with alone robot Cutie. Powell and Donovan
were sent to the space station which controls Earth energy. There was a robot
named Cutie, Cutie decides that he was created by “master” not by human and
that space, stars and planets beyond do not exist, and that the humans that visit
the station is to worship the robot. Cutie thought people are slaves and couldn’t
believe in his creation by humanity. Cutie arrested Powell and Donovan because
of attempts to misinform him. The situation seems desperate, as a meteor storm
started and Cutie protected the station and did his work excellent. hits, Powell
and Donovan were amazed of Cutie’s perfect work. They realized that there is
no need to do change mind of this robot because except his “religion” he still
does his work perfect.
