Year 10 Integrated Critical Analysis Essay Preparation

Tips –
 Spell the title/author’s name correctly mistakes tell the marker you don’t know the text very well.
 Use the author’s full name in the introduction the first time you mention it, then by surname only.
Use full name again in the conclusion.
 You do not need a list of techniques in your introduction. Keep your introduction focused on the
question and the concepts.
 Analyse the techniques for every quote you use and explain the effect.
 Use connecting words to introduce a second text. These terms help you link paragraphs and move
from one point to the next- see list below.
 Your conclusion must make a specific and direct response to the question.

 Check capitalisation – do not capitalise concepts, no ‘texting’ language, etc.
 Check spelling, grammar and sentence structure.
 Numbers should be written in words - unless more than 3 digits such as dates 1959 etc.
 Avoid generalizations, eg, ‘got’, ‘thing’ and ‘it’ – be specific.
