Part I (Testing for Monosaccharides)

1. Obtain 3 clean test tubes and place them in a test tube rack, mark each one with the letters A, B and C.

2. Fill: test tube A with 2 mL of milk; test tube B with 2 mL of orange juice; test tube C with 2 mL of potato juice.

3. Add 5 mL of fehling’s solution

4. Heat each tube with an alcohol burner.

5. Record any colour changes

Part II (Testing for Starch)

1. Obtain 3 clean test tubes and place them in a test tube rack, mark each one with the letters A, B and C.

2. Fill: test tube A with 2 mL of milk; test tube B with 2 mL of orange juice; test tube C with 2 mL of potato juice.

3. Add 3 drops of Iugol’s solution to each test tube.

4. Let the test tubes sit for 3-5 minutes.

5. Record any colour changes

Part III (Testing for Proteins)

1. Obtain 3 clean test tubes and place them in a test tube rack, mark each one with the letters A, B and C.

2. Fill: test tube A with 2 mL of milk; test tube B with 2 mL of orange juice; test tube C with 2 mL of potato juice.

3. Add Biuret reagente ( 4 drops of copper sulphate 5%+ 1 drop of potassium hydroxide 50%) to each test tube.

4. Gently shake the contents of each test tube.

5. Let the test tubes sit for 3-5 minutes.

6. Record any color changes.


Part IV (Testing for Lipids)

1. Obtain 3 clean test tubes and place them in a test tube rack, mark each one with the letters A, B and C.

2. Fill: test tube A with 2 mL of milk; test tube B with 2 mL of orange juice; test tube C with 2 mL of potato juice.

3. Add 5 drops of sudan III to each test tube

4. Gently shake the contents of each test tube.

5. Let the test tubes sit for 3-5 minutes.

6. Record any color changes.

Part V (Testing for water)

1. Obtain 3 clean test tubes and place them in a test tube rack, mark each one with the letters A, B and
C.

2. Fill: test tube A with 2 mL of milk; test tube B with 2 mL of orange juice; test tube C with 2 mL of potato
juice.

3. Add a bit of anhydrous copper sulfate

4. Record any color changes.
