CLO2 Demonstrate effective oral communication skills
This project is aimed to assess students’ articulatory skills and ability to present themselves effectively to
the prospective employer. Each student has to produce a 2-3 minute short video resume for employment
purpose.
Students choose any valid advertisement from the latest ENGLISH newspaper, magazines, Internet etc
and produce a visume for the position. The advertisement has to be shown to the lecturer for approval
purpose. The advertisement (soft copy) needs to be submitted along with the visume. Submission of the
visume is in the form of CD or Cloud.
General Guidelines:
1. Individual project

CLO3 Apply effective writing skills in workplace communication
The project introduces students to academic writing where they will learn to apply effective writing skills
such as outlining, organising, drafting, writing and editing to produce a report. Students need to investigate
/ research / look into the public’s (any target group) perception / awareness / satisfaction towards a product
or service of any company or organization through the use of a survey questionnaire which is given to at
least 30 people. From the questionnaire, they need to find out what the complaints are really about, or
whether the public are satisfied or dissatisfied with the product or service, or whether the public have
positive or negative perception or awareness towards the company’s product or service. Then, they need
to write a report about it.
General Guidelines:
1. Work in groups of 4 – 5 members.
2. Select a topic and get lecturer’s approval: Week 3
3. Prepare a proposal for lecturer’s approval: Week 4
4. Prepare a written report and submit for grading: Week 9
Work flow:
a. Decide on what product OR service offered by the company that you want to conduct a survey
about (for example, MAMEE company may have only products to offer but a telco company like
MAXIS or DIGI have both products and services; thus, choose only one).
b. Then prepare a proposal (submit in Week 4 for lecturer’s approval).
c. The proposal consists of two parts: Terms of Reference & Procedure.
d. Include a sample set of questionnaire (optional).
e. Once the lecturer approves, proceed to the actual work of giving out the questionnaire to at least
30 people. The questionnaire must consist of 12 - 15 questions.
f. Once the survey is done, you can start doing the other three sections: Finding, Conclusion and
Recommendation.
g. In the Finding section, include graphs / charts / tables and these must correspond with the
questionnaire questions.
h. The final report must include everything and in this order:

3.0 Findings
4.0 Conclusions
5.0 Recommendations
6.0 Appendix

There are only two sections in the final examination and the duration is 120 minutes. The breakdown of
the paper is as follow:
SECTION A – 35%
MCQ – 20 questions
Case study – several questions
SECTION B – 15%
Writing – it could be anything from a letter, memo, email or resume
