INTERVIEWING CANDIDATES

Interviewing candidates is a way for companies to meet and communicate with job candidates. An interview
can be defined as an attempt to obtain the maximum amount of information from a candidate about his or her
suitability for the job under consideration. The job interview mainly examines the applicant's intelligence level,
relevant work experience, educational background, personality characteristics ,and communication skills. If
handled with care, it can be a powerful technique for having accurate information to interview. At the same
time, if the interview is mishandled, it can lead to bias, restriction, or distortion of communication.

According to "NEW STRAITSTIMES" on November 9, 2014, an issue titled "the fresh graduates lack the
interview". 87% of employers have poor performance in the interview and show the irresponsible behavior of
job seekers. It makes to the employers are difficult to recruit the right people. According to the survey,
misconduct is mainly fresh graduates. College graduates accounted for 62 percent and junior executives 66
percent. In addition, the employers found that the candidates not only lack the command of English but also
show some bad behaviors. According to the data, no show where candidates did not show up for a scheduled
interview accounted for 34%, late candidates accounted for 14%, wearing inappropriate candidates accounted
for 12%, not ready to candidates accounted for 12%, didn't respond to interview invite candidates accounted for
7%. These behaviors have seriously affected the image of the candidates themselves. Candidates who exhibit
these behaviors will not be hired by the company.
According to the BBC NEWS on October 27, 2019, an issue titled "Why some job interviews are downright
weird" reports. Alison Green (Alison Green) said that there are so many employers in the process of the
interview showed no serious behavior. Candidates believe that employers will make a real effort in interviewing
and recruiting and that candidates will be screened rigorously. However, according to the article shows that the
employer has not done so. The company little or no professional training for the interviewer. The company will
make the interviewer decide what problem asks candidates. Interviewer's questions such as Why you shouldn't
hug your colleagues, why do we put up with so many bad managers , why team-building events can be
terrible , if you were an animal, what kind of animal would you be, what would I find in your refrigerator
right now. These questions are certainly smart at times, but they have nothing to do with the job and can even
make candidates nervous because they fear there are no right answers. Moreover, some interviewers used to
treat the interview as a social gathering and chat happily. The interviewer sees the interview as a way to learn
personal information, rather than explore the candidate's skills, experience, and abilities. Although interviewers
have been explicitly told that it is helpful to design exercises or simulations to observe the candidate's
performance. However, they are not being properly implemented. A bad interview not only does not help the
company better evaluate candidates, but it can also show that the company is unprofessional. Some candidates
will immediately evaluate the interviewer or the company and make their judgment.

According to my suggestion, the Malaysian ministry of education can cooperate with JobStreet.com and
TalentCorp to organize the training and event. Training candidates how to deal with the interviewer's question,
communication skills. JobStreet.com is an online recruitment firm and TalentCorp is a specialist in nurturing
young talent. So the government can solve the problem more quickly and more effectively. Futhermore,
candidates should be prepared before the interview such as dress formally, arrive punctually, ready to deal with
problems, realize more about the information of the company. When it comes to interviews, candidates can
show their abilities well. Moreover, companies need to train interviewers on skills such as social skill,
psychological skill and communication skill. A good interviewer must have a thorough knowledge of the
company in order to ensure that the interviewer responds to questions from the candidate. Besides ,training
can help to interview faculties accurately ask some professional question such as direct questions, open ended
questions, behavioral questions, probing questions. These questions will give you more information about the
candidate's career background and abilities. Besides that, the company also needs to increase the number of
interviewers in different fields to ask different types of questions and accurately select the right candidates. The
results are also more objective, fair and effective. Other than that, companies can interview multiple candidates
at the same time. This is not only reflected in the efficiency of the interviewer, but also in the ability to select
the best candidates. During the interview, the interviewer should pay attention to the behavior, attitude and
behavior of the applicant. Bad manners will affect the overall image of the company. Among the unsuccessful
candidates, the interviewer must also ask them to make a good impression on the company.
