Science and Technology in Society

QUESTIONS:

1. What would happened to humankind if technology did not exist?

2. Do you agree with Martin Heidegger in his idea that technology should only be seen as one of
the approaches we should consider?

ANSWERS:

1. I think it the answer will depend on how we use technology in our lives. Without technology,
which I understand to mean the construction of tools and weapons according to cultural
instructions and this includes fire, human beings would quickly become extinct. If technology did

m
not exist, we would be still be in the prehistory were in we as a human are like animals who are

er as
just one step ahead of the apes before. We can’t grow and develop since technology is one of

co
the reason to be progressive. Life without technology nowadays is very difficult to live.

However, if technology does not exist maybe the world now is peaceful without any hazards and

environmental issues and all. After technology was discovered all has changed and that includes
rs e
ourselves. If I were to choose, I would rather be living this in the pre historic age were people are
ou urc
innocents and where peace living occur

2. I think it depends on what we believe upon. In my own opinion, I don’t agree with Martin
o

Heidegger in his idea that technology should only be seen as one of the approaches in perceiving
aC s

the truth because there are possible approaches according to our philosophers that we also
vi y re

need to consider and that would be the reason and the power. The power of our mind with the
use of our reasoning we seek truth. Because we think and doubt that’s why we exist and it is
true for me.
