1.

Does the positive part of the advancement of artificial intelligence and machine learning
outweigh the negative effects of it?
a. Yes, I think that the positive side of artificial intelligence and machine learning outweigh
the negative side because these technologies when used responsibly and for the benefit
of humanity, aid not only our professional lives but also our personal lives. For instance,
in my field of study, developments in artificial intelligence and machine learning such as
molecular docking, compound libraries, online journal databases, writing tools, and
automated quality control and manufacturing machines decrease the amount of time
and effort spent in developing and manufacturing drug products, which inevitably aids
public health significantly. At the end of the day, I believe that technology is a tool that
we, humans, can control, learn to understand (i.e. media literacy), and choose how and
when to utilize (i.e. self-discipline).
2. What framework could you suggest in the data ownership of different platforms?
a. Honestly, I am not the most digitally literate person in the world. However, if I were to
suggest some inputs on a framework, I would say that creating rules and regulations on
data collection, use, and ownership should be the first action we must take as we
cannot force technological companies to adhere to our ethical beliefs without a
consequence directed at them.
3. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of data science and analytics.
a. The study of data science and analytics is growing exponentially. Today, data is more
easily collected and analyzed, which makes it a feasible and reliable tool in research.
Furthermore, data science and analytics have opened a powerful platform for us to
connect with others and share information. However, advantages always come with
disadvantages. Because data is now more easily collected and analyzed, people with
different (i.e. evil) intentions can use the collected and analyzed data to harm others.
Moreover, the powerful platforms can be used to spread not only true and ethical
information but also false and debatable information.
