INTELLIGENCE WILL HELP HUMANITY
AI (artificial intelligence) is considered one of the most
revolutionary developments in human history. In Greek Mythology, it is
said that the concepts of AI were used. The model of artificial neurons
was first brought forward in 1943 by Warren McCulloch and Walter Pits.
After seven years, in 1950, a research paper related to AI was published
by Alan Turing which was titled 'Computer Machinery and
Intelligence’.
The term Artificial Intelligence was first coined in 1956 by John
McCarthy, who is known as the father of Artificial Intelligence. The
world has already started witnessing its transformative capabilities. AI-
based technology is powering some of the most cutting-edge solutions
we use in our day-to-day lives.
Today, AI empowers organizations, governments, and
communities to build a high-performing ecosystem to serve the entire
world. It is profound for solving some of the most critical challenges
faced by the society. AI majorly impacts fields like healthcare, renewable
energy, agriculture, employment, and even advancing research for the
betterment of human race.
The healthcare industry is ripe with disruptive applications of AI,
including the development of new drugs. AI and machine learning have
been used to process large chunks of data. This technology is used to
process several rounds of tests to select the best one for drug
manufacturing.
AI also offers new ways of reporting violence happening daily
such as domestic abuse, intense bullying, gender-based violence, and
more. It is designed to monitor internal communications, emails, chats,
and so on for inappropriate content. Various applications and platforms
have been developed to help victims share their experiences of sexual
harassment and abuse along with the time and location where these
events took place.
Even human trafficking can be accessed using modern technology
and AI. Traffickers often use the internet to place advertisements to lure
potential victims. Artificial intelligence tools and computer vision
algorithms scrape images from different websites used by traffickers and
label objects in images to search and review suspect advertisements.
Additionally, these tools analyze data from advertisements and websites
to identify the potential victims of human trafficking and alert
authorities before the crime. Artificial intelligence in collaboration with
other technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud
computing, and big data analytics, has significantly transformed the
renewable energy sector.
Artificial intelligence has also assisted people living independently
with disabilities. Voice-assisted AI is one of the breakthroughs,
particularly for those who are visually impaired. It helps them
communicate with others using smart devices and describe their
surroundings. Tools like this can significantly help in overcoming daily
obstacles for those with disabilities.
While the adoption of AI technologies is increasing, challenges
remain. There are some major challenges faced by organizations
developing AI solutions for social good including the fear of risk,
defining how to measure the value the solution will bring, and an
incomplete understanding of AI. The high cost of technology,
regulatory, ethical, and security concerns. However, organizations and
institutions can overcome them by investing in advanced research,
human capital, and infrastructure, and encouraging AI literacy in society
Organizations planning to invest in advanced AI research or
implementing AI for social good must actively collaborate with research
institutions and government bodies to apply their AI solutions for real-
world impact. Moreover, workshops and forums are some of the best
platforms for organizations to gather the insights they need. These
platforms can be used to understand whether an organization’s
solutions are the right fit to solve challenges for social good.
AI is also promoted by the government to be used in the
agriculture sector. AI technology can be used to detect diseases in plants,
pests, and poor plant nutrition. Farmers can also analyze the weather
conditions, temperature, water usage, and condition of soil regarding
the seed variety.
When the terms AI and employment come to our minds, it creates
concerns about our future employment and the fact that AI has a high
probability of making most humans unemployed whereas in reality is
on the contrary. The development of AI has the potential to drive
economic growth and job creation. AI technologies are creating new
industries, job roles, and opportunities in fields like data science, AI
ethics, and AI development. Additionally, the automation of repetitive
and mundane tasks can free up human workers to focus on more
creative, strategic, and fulfilling tasks. By making businesses more
efficient, AI can contribute to economic growth and potentially generate
new wealth that can be used to address societal challenges.
Thus the development of AI is poised to bring about significant
benefits for humanity. From advancements in healthcare and education
to environmental conservation and transportation, AI's transformative
potential is evident in its ability to address some of the world's most
pressing challenges. Furthermore, AI promotes accessibility and
inclusion, enhances disaster response, aids in scientific research, and
contributes to economic growth and job creation.
While we must remain vigilant about the ethical and societal
implications of AI, it is clear that AI's promise is vast. It is up to
governments, industries, and society as a whole to harness this
technology for the greater good and ensure that the benefits are
equitably distributed. By responsibly guiding the development of AI, we
can seize this opportunity to create a brighter and more promising
future for humanity.

STUDENT REFLECTIONS

Doing this project on how AI helps humanity has opened my eyes on

how much of a boon it can be. I learnt so much from this given topic. I
analysed how AI can help provide real-world solutions to human issues.
I have learnt how effective it can be in several fields and how much it
serve as a tool.
