ADMISSIONS EXERCISE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS (AEIS)


INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

NOTES TO CANDIDATES

Candidates are to read and comply with the following instructions and regulations governing the conduct of
the tests. For queries, please contact the Ministry of Education, Customer Service Centre Hotline, at +65
6872 2220.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

1. Candidates should receive an acknowledgement email which consists of this set of instructions and
an Entry Proof stating the candidate’s index number, date / time for all tests, test venue, seat number
and level seeking admission to.

2. Candidates should cater some buffer time for their return travel arrangements (e.g. to allow candidates
to be at the airport in time for their flight) in the event that there are unforeseen delays in the test
completion time.

3. Candidates are advised to have at most 2 parents / guardians to accompany them to the test venue.

4. Eating outlets are available near the test venue but may be crowded when candidates have their meal
break. Candidates are thus advised to bring along some food in the event that they are not in time to
get their food from the nearby eating outlets.

SITTING FOR THE TESTS

5. Candidates are to print and bring their Entry Proof to the test venue for verification before they can
enter the test hall. Candidates are reminded not to write anything on their Entry Proof.

6. The start time and end time for all tests will be indicated on the whiteboard in the hall.

7. It is compulsory for candidates to sit for all the tests, namely, Mathematics and English.

8. Candidates are to take the Mathematics test first, followed by a meal break before taking the English
test.

9. The duration of each test includes the time for reading the questions. No extra time will be given.

10. Candidates are advised to arrive at the test venue 45 minutes before the start of the test and are to be
seated at their assigned desks at least 15 minutes before the commencement of each test.

11. Candidates who are late will not be given extra time and will end their tests together with the rest of
the candidates.

12. Candidates are to place their Entry Proof and identification documents (i.e. Passport and Immigration
Exemption Order/Dependant’s Pass/Student’s Pass where applicable) on their desks for the entire
duration of the test.

13. Candidates are to bring their own writing instruments as these will not be provided.

14. Candidates are to leave all electronic or communication devices (e.g. mobile phone, etc) and personal
belongings at the designated area in the test hall. We are not responsible for the loss of or damage to
items.

15. Candidates must not, under any circumstances whatsoever, communicate with anyone during the test.

16. Candidates must read and comply with the instructions printed on the cover page of each question
paper and answer booklet.

17. Candidates must inform the invigilator immediately if they are:

i. issued a question paper they are not supposed to sit for, or

ii. issued a question paper that does not contain the number of pages or questions as specified on
the cover page, or

iii. not issued supplementary materials (such as writing paper) stated in the question paper.

18. Candidates must not leave their seat without the permission of the invigilator.

19. Candidates should write their answers legibly in black or blue ink. 2B pencils and soft eraser(s) will be
required for both English and Mathematics tests.

20. For multiple-choice questions, candidates are to use a 2B pencil to shade the answers on the Optical
Answer Sheets (OAS). The OAS will be issued to candidates together with the test papers.
Candidates are to write their name and index number on the OAS.

21. Candidates are not allowed to use calculators and any print or electronic dictionary, including
translation version, for both Mathematics and English tests.

22. Candidates are to write their name and index number on the first sheet/cover page of their answer
scripts. If loose writing paper is used, they should also write their name and index number on every
sheet.

23. Candidates are not required to copy the questions they are attempting. They need only write clearly
the question numbers (including the alpha character, if any) in the left margin of the writing paper. No
answers should be written in the left and right margins of the writing paper.

24. Unless stated in the instructions, candidates should leave two lines between the answers to
consecutive questions or consecutive parts of a question.

25. Candidates should write on both sides of the writing paper unless otherwise specified in the
instructions.

26. Candidates should not, at any time, fold their writing paper. Candidates should not divide the page into
columns.

27. Candidates are advised to read the questions carefully. No marks are awarded for information not
asked for in the questions.

28. Candidates are also advised that good time management is essential. They should not spend too
much time on a few questions and leave no time for the others.

29. At the end of a test, candidates must stop writing immediately when told to do so by the invigilator. If
writing paper is used, they should arrange their answers in the numerical sequence of the questions,
with the smallest number on top.

30. The answer scripts, together with the cover page provided, should be tied together at the top left-hand
corner with the string provided. Alternatively, an answer booklet may be provided.

31. Candidates must remain seated at their respective desks and remain silent while the answer scripts
are collected.

32. No candidates may leave the hall during the test unless permitted by the invigilator.

33. Question papers and used/unused writing paper must be returned to the invigilators at the end of
every test. No candidates must leave the hall with the question papers and/or used/unused writing
paper.

MALPRACTICE

34. Malpractice refers to actions of candidates, either pre-meditated or otherwise, which goes against the
test rules and regulations or which allows candidates an advantage in the test or enables them to
sabotage other candidates’ test performance. Examples of malpractice by candidates are collusion or
attempted collusion with other persons; bringing unauthorised materials into the test venue; copying
from another candidate; submission of another person’s work as if it were the candidate’s own; and
plagiarism etc.

35. Candidates may be expelled from the test hall, refused entry for subsequent tests, and/or have his/her
tests cancelled if he/she:

i. has committed an act of dishonesty; or

ii. attempts to obtain or offer unfair assistance; or

iii. copies from another candidate or allows his/her answers to be copied by another candidate; or

iv. possesses books, notes, memoranda or any other reference materials not authorised for use in
the test; or

v. possesses electronic devices (e.g. pocket PC, PDA), communication devices (e.g. mobile
phones, pagers) and computerised aids (e.g. computerised wrist-watches) capable of storing
and displaying visual and verbal information prohibited; or

vi. removes from the hall any question paper or used/unused writing paper.

INFECTIOUS DISEASES

36. Candidates who are suffering from any infectious disease (e.g. chicken pox) are not allowed to sit for
the tests. Such candidates should call SEAB (+65 6377 7796) to inform them of their conditions.

37. In the event of any epidemic (such as H1N1 or Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus
MERS-CoV) that requires additional measures to be taken, candidates will be duly informed via e-mail
before the tests.

CONDUCT AND BEHAVIOUR

38. Candidates should be properly attired when they present themselves for the test. Male candidates
should be in shirt, trousers and shoes. Female candidates should not wear immodest or outlandish
clothes.

39. Candidates are not permitted to smoke or consume any form of food and drinks in the test venue or
premises.

40. Candidates who deliberately breach any of the above instructions, rules and regulations of the test
(e.g. found guilty of improper conduct or misbehaviour during the test) may be prohibited from taking
the test, expelled from the test hall and/or refused entry for subsequent tests.

WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND

41. No refund of the test fees paid will be made to candidates who withdraw from the AEIS tests and/or
have taken any part of the tests.
