ISSUES AND CONCERNS ABOUT THE HOST COMPANY

A. Internship Host Company

 Daily Time Record

In monitoring your time-in and time-out, you just need a bundee slip that provided
by the guard at the lobby of any building or floor of SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co.
Every intern is required to take Bundee slip to be the solid evidence of your
attendance on your internship. This slip may be taken from the guard by anyone
on any floor or building owned by the company. There are some instances that
some of the Senior Associates or Audit Associates are the one who getting slip
for their intern just because they have been late from their fieldwork and some of
the Associates do not require interns to get their slips daily as they were
instructed to head straight to the client’s office.

The control on this system of recording the attendance is weak since the on-duty
guards are not strict in giving Bundee Slip to anyone even it may the person
taken a couple of times of the said slip.

 Idle time

Some of the interns were given their work from their Associates later after lunch,
even though the interns are in the Office around eight o’clock in the morning
because that is the start of regular or office hours. It turns out that the interns has
nothing to do in the morning and when the works are given to them, they wasn’t
able to finish it at the end of office hour and it gives them no choice but to extend
their time at the office just to finish the given works.

 Access Card

After the orientation and short briefing at the start of our internship, the HR
already gave us a lanyard along with the access card that will be the key to be
able to enter inside the office. But unfortunately, not all the interns have already
an access through the gate because the HR or the IT has not yet been activating
the access card that was given. As a result, the interns were not able to enter the
office not until someone that has an activated access card would enter the
premises.

 Laptop Issued to Interns

Not every laptop that had given by the company has still a good condition, some
of them have no software that is needed at work, and the interns need to go back
at the IT just to get installed their laptop of needed application and software.
Some of the laptop were not performing well.

Wasting time is not an option while working at this firm. Hence, the interns have
no choice but to go to the office and need to update the software of the laptops to
avoid unnecessary lagging.
 Introducing interns as new hires to clients

Being introduced as new hire is a big role to fill. There will be instances that the
client will approach you with tasks to be done, or documents to be received and
you have no idea with what to do with those. If the client knows that we are
interns, they will be aware of our capabilities and limitations as trainees
RECOMMENDATIONS TO IMPROVE HOST COMPANY

With the aforementioned issues and concerns, we recommend the following to the host
company regarding the daily time record, idle time of interns, Access card, Laptop Issued to
Interns and Introducing interns as new hires to clients respectively.

(1) Enhance the controls on the system of recording the attendance. Think about upgrading
the system into more advanced technological system such as biometric system. This will
give a reliable track of the actual time rendered by the interns. Also, it will be of great
help in practice of upholding their integrity while they are still on a training as they are to
bring this value with themselves when they enter the corporate world.

(2) We highly suggest that beforehand, every Associates in the team must have a ready
assigned work that will be given to the interns so that every morning that the interns
come to the office, they have already work awaits them. So, their time will not be waste
just sitting there.

(3) Before giving the access card to the new interns, the IT and HR should check if all the
access card that they will distribute are already activated to minimize the hassle of
interns to go back at the IT Office just to inform about the said issue because every
minute are important.

(4) As what I recommend to that issue of Access card, the IT must check first before giving
to the intern the laptop if the software and application that will be needing in the works
has already installed.

(5) We, as a student must be practicing the integrity in every aspect of life. And it all starts at
teaching us how to apply it in reality. Hence, as the SGV’s employees being all a
professional, we must practice our integrity on saying what is true. They must introduce
us, as intern, to their clients. And if they have an idea that their clients does not want an
intern working on their accounts, the team must not accept an intern.
