TASHA’S GOSPEL ARTISTS’ PRACTICAL CLASS

QUESTIONS
1. PERFORMANCE PROGRAM ORGANIZATION. Go do research on who they are

2. Copyright Intellectual Properties

Is your song registered legally to you?

3. Do you know Sound Exchange

Pay you for streams, they trace sites where your music is being streamed. Get a sound exchange
account and get registered

4. Do you have a mentor(tangible or distant)- a mentor does not have to be close, study find
materials, study their life their songs, books they wrote, chase your mentor, find how they
became who they are now

5. Are you affiiated with a local church or pastor

You have to be affiliated with a worship place that keeps you grounded and you are being filled after
you pour out to the world. Trust People to pour into you. You need to figure out that you don’t know
everything and if you don’t admit to this it’s very dangerous.

Its dangerous to have access something prematurely and you’re not ready for.
You need patience because this is where you are processed, and in the process you learn character. A
lot of thing happens in the industry that you need a thick skin for.
Process is never comfortable
Be faithful where you are, because where you are now is more important than the glitz and glam,
what you’re learning now is more important.

Erica Campbell
Mentored, Trained , Humbled
Always remain at the feet of Jesus for these 3 things

“Everybody won’t be happy for you”, so you have to be professional and learn to still bless the Lord at
all times
If you’re working for God, the applause of people shouldn’t make or break you.

You might have surrendered to the gift but not to God

If you’re not humbled before God, you will go out there and fall flat on your face
Don’t take ownership of that gift, Its a gift

Know that God can still use you even if you’re not fully surrendered, so don’t let that fame, OR THE
FACT THAT PEOPLE TOLD YOU THEY WERE BLESSED BY YOUR MINISTRATION fool you. Get right with
God

After the big show, Once you go back home you wont be able to hear God admist all that earthly
praise in your head
Keep saying to yourself- “I’m nothing without God”. This will humble you, If not the fame will get to
your head.
Its our reasonable service, you’re never doing God a favour by living right because He can always get
another person to get the job done.

IT’S NEVER A WASTE OF TIME TO WAIT FOR YOUR TIME

You’ve got to have the right spirit, because in the end we want to get to heaven
You can’t be a Public success and a private failure

Always tell God to show you yourself first and your flaws before you start complaining about
everything around you.
Even with signing deals, you need to trust God and only God

NO CHURCH HOP

RADIO
BMI,ASCAP, Awards(Go to the meetings, register, be a voter)
Make relationships every step of the way, because they’ll help you.

Everybody is not called to global stardom, but you need to be comfortable appreciative and maximize
your current place of calling. Maximize the doors you have now.

KIRK FRANKLIN
Don’t allow religion to suffocate your creativity
Religion can really choke down your creativity
You got be free to create and not let religion put a ceiling over you.

The movie passion of Christ we know today wasn’t the first ever to be made, the first that was done
was produced by a Christian and wasn’t so popular because he allowed religion to choke down his
creativity and what should be shown and what shouldn’t be expressively shown in the movie, but the
popular one was done by a non-Christian (Mel Gibson) who wasn’t choked down by religion and just
wanted to do an excellent work and explore the depths of his creativity

The bible says Jesus performed miracles- He did a Performance, he did a show man
Present your ministry like your show off God did.
He did miracles to attract the people and bring them closer and when they got near he then sat them
down to teach them the word.

Don’t neglect the excellence of your presentation (your voice, arrangements, movements etc.) don’t
just depend on your anointing to lead people or minister to people in this industry, performance is
equally important.
Your performance is a way to attract the people that don’t know God yet or can’t connect to his spirit,
so make sure there’s something for everyone in the room

Your creativity doesn’t have to sit on the sideline but let your faith drive and your creativity ride
alongside. Your faith in God should be the basis but don’t leave your creativity at home

The enemy will make you feel like everyone is against you and make stay on an island, and not take
the correction you need. Its a lie. Submit to the people God has put in your life to correct you and tell
you no sometimes.

“If my wife tells me no to a song, y’all are never gonna hear it’

WILLIAM MCDOWELL

First have a relationship with the God you’re talking about if not there would be no credibility to
what you’re doing
If there’s no lifestyle of prayer, you’re not going anywhere
If Fame is your thing then gospel is not your thing
Matt 6:24
You in are always in a place either to impart or receive and it’s important to figure out which one is
needed at that point in time

And when it comes to mentoring, some people are looking for an Elijah when they have an Elisha
already in their life, so value that.
My mentor once told me
“Experience is not the best teacher its just a school, a fool attends
The best teacher is someone who has had experience and is willing to tell others which makes this
meeting so important“

Understanding God’s call on you life is the most important thing you have to desire for
“I spend the majority of my time in the presence of God, however I am not ignorant as it relates to
this business”
“7 years ago I was overhearing a convo between two artists and one of them said I just spent
$400,000 buying back the rights to my song”
They were talking about publishing rights not performance rights or copyright, and publishing rights
means who has the right to exploit your song
When I heard them say that, I said to myself that I will never be ignorant concerning this business

Copyright is only a small percentage of the money that can be made from your song, publishing rights
is the bigger percentage
Do research and read, if you don’t study you wont know your work
Don’t allow ignorance to be the reason you're struggling
It’s important that if God is pouring out blessings you need to increase your capacity(your container)
to receive , through knowledge (and there are a number of different ways that we need to
understand that we can increase our capacity)
If its raining outside and you only have a cup, you will receive much less than the person with a
bucket.
Because a lot of time we are asking God for blessings but our capacity is not increased enough to
what he is giving or pouring out

“When I signed my first contract, the company offered me $30,000 to buy the rights to my publishing
and some people might think that’s a lot but if I signed they would have owned that IN PERPERTUITY
(means for life). I own my own publishing, so I’m doing the majority of the exploitation of my own
song”
For the last 10 years that I’ve traveled is not because I need to or because of the money but its
because of the calling of God on my life, so that in a moment like this and in a global pandemic the
reason why we’re able to be home is because we understood that business 15 years ago and we were
able to create a container able to receive the very blessing that we cry out to God for.
Do the work because you’re called not because you need to. If you’re looking for fame in the gospel
ministry, you’re not going to make it, that’s just it

In this generation because the people don’t understand these things they are literally giving away
their treasure and what you don’t understand is that your song is your legacy to your children and
when you own your things your children and your will be the beneficiary of your catalogue. Every time
someone sings “I give myself away” , that’s a blessing not just to me but to my children.

For us, we need to understand that if we’re gonna spend in God’s presence and ask for his blessings
and He gives us a song for the nations and allows multiple nations of the world to hear that’s the
favour of God.

When my album first came out and the radio asked for a highlight song to play on the radio I picked “I
give myself away”. The people said it wasn’t gonna make it on radio because it was a worship song
and they wanted something different, because worship wasn’t very popular then on radio but I stood
my ground and said that whenever I sing this song, something happens in the room. And lo and
behold when they released it on radio it was a flop and everything they said would happen happened.
Now I want you to understand what the favour of God can do, after the song was a radio flop, people
started calling in and requesting the song and “I give myself away” blew up 2.5 years after it was
released.

Don’t change who you are to look for an audience, your authentic version has an audience.
There are people designed for the gift you have

Create a container to receive what God has for you (songs, money etc.)
How? Read and study extensively on the business, and your art
*Note: Go find out about Individual Retirement Accent

In this generation and time, its inexcusable to be ignorant

In a music deal, there are parts like the publishing rights, copyright, song writing rights, performance
rights.
Make sure you never give your publishing rights totally away to your recording company, because
anyone in charge of the publishing rights of your song also have copyright and have a say in whatever
happens to your songs and have access to the value of your song(even monetary value)
Even if they are offering a million dollars cos you never know how much proceeds they’ll make from
your song.
When you see the words “In Perpetuity ‘ in a contract, run away from it.

Also be a smart about negotiating too, because some people could make you loose your only
recording deal because of this, you could negotiate to give them for 5-10 years and then take it all
back because nothing in this life is fair, what is fair is negotiated.
Be smart and negotiate

DIFFERENCE BETTWEEN GIFT AND CALLING
