1. Introduction: To collect experimental data and conduct exploratory data analysis on hospital
beds available in indian states with their respetcive population .This data is crucial in knowing the
which states have sufficient hospitals or not .The reason to choose this topic is ecause of the current
pandemic COVID-19 has affected the whole world even the developed countries are falling short
in their efforts while india is safely tackling the problem .The home to 1.3 billion will be at risk if
the peak of the pandemic attack is overloads the current number of hospital beds and this is the
reason for the total lockdown. This report healthcare system capacity if india in a fragmented
manner,by listing statewise .

2.Data collection: The State-Wise Estimates of Current Hospital Beds, ICU Beds, and Ventilators
have been collected from The Center For Disease Dynamics, Economics & Policy(CDDEP)
[1].The population statistics of indian states which are projected values of the 2011 census
are taken from national commision on population under Ministry of health and family
welfare [2].
The variables for the data are Population,Hospitals,Hospital beds,Beds per 1000 people.
While the individuals are the States and Union Territories. In the report i have collected data from
genuine sources. The data for Ladakh(Union Territory )was not available in the sources so i have
omitted this data individual.
I have used the following data.

3.Plots and discussion:

With the help of R language and R studio , a scatter plot is drawn between Population and
Number of hospitals. From the plot we can readily infer most of the states can be grouped into
two clusters one being states or UT’s with less than 5 crore populations(27 units) and the others
which have more people than 5 crore people(10 units). Let me call these Group 1 and Group 2
respectively. As a general phenomenon Group 1 will have less no of hospitals and group 2 shoud
have more number of hospitals.

A curve fitting is done to the above plot .

We can
easily state
that some
have

overperformed than the national average .India currently has 69,256 hospitals including both public
and private hospitals.
The total no of Hospital beds currently are 18,93,227 .This is at time of April 2020,Indian
government has also undertaken makeshift hospitals to cater the need for COVID 19.

Most of the beds and ventilators in India are concentrated in seven states – Uttar Pradesh (14.8%),
Karnataka (13.8%), Maharashtra (12.2%), Tamil Nadu (8.1%), West Bengal (5.9%), Telangana
(5.2%) and Kerala (5.2%).

The important parameter in case of a global pandeminc related to health care system may be the
number of beds available for 1000 people. This is a good comparison factor to compare various
entities as small as unioin territories to as big as countries.

The values of various countries are as follows

Rank Country Hospital beds per 1000 people@2017
1 Japan 13.05
2 South Korea 12.27
4 Germany 8
10 France 5.98
19 China 4.35
26 Italy 3.18
32 USA 2.77
36 UK 2.54
40 INDIA 1.2
Currently India has a value of 1.43 .
There are a few states with very high value such as Uttarakhand (21.07) which clearly indiacate
they have given importance to healthcare than any other states.
