Academic Dishonesty

Academic dishonesty is to knowingly act or fail to act in a way that results or could result in
unearned academic credit or advantage (source: course outline)

Examples of Academic Dishonesty:


• Plagiarism
• Improper collaboration in group work
• Copying or using unauthorized aids in tests and examinations

Policy: Penalties

Penalties for Graduate Students


• The first time a student is found guilty of academic dishonesty, the
penalty is generally either a letter or grade reduction or a zero on the
assignment in question
• The second time a student is found guilty of academic dishonesty, the
penalty is generally “F” in the course with a transcription notation
• The third time a student is found guilty of academic dishonesty, the
penalty is generally “F” in the course with a transcription notation and
suspension or expulsion with a transcript notation
• PLUS: additional penalties (p.11 Academic Integrity Policy)
