The lockdown has made it hard for all of us.

Since the lockdown, I haven’t been able to

socialize with people other than my family. I haven’t been able to go to school, but still have to
comply with its requirements despite having an environment that is not that conducive for
learning. I’ve been stuck at home, doing the same chores, seeing the same faces, and repeating
the same tasks over and over with each day that passes. But although the lockdown made it
really hard for all of us to move around, there are still some good things that we can make out
of it. This essay will discuss about the positive effects of the lockdown on globalization.

Since the beginning of lockdown in the Philippines, two of its most notable positive
effect on the automotive industry is on the prices of gas and the amount of traffic. Due to its
low demand, prices of petroleum have significantly decreased since the beginning of the
lockdown, giving car owners the chance to stock up on gas for when the lockdown will be lifted.
Road traffic have also decongested by a lot, resulting to a large decrease in the numbers of
road-related accidents and death. And because there is less fuel consumption nowadays, I am
starting to notice that the air is much more breathable and much cleaner compared to when
traffic was a huge problem.

Another positive effect of the lockdown is on the people’s diets. Due to the strict
implementation of community quarantine, most fast food restaurants were forced to
temporarily close down for the mean time. The temporary closing of these places led to the
replacement of fast food by home-cooked meals, meaning that people now receive more
quality food and nutrient-packed meals. Also, thanks to the contribution of social media, people
are now more inclined to do home workouts instead of sitting in front of the television the
whole day. I, for one, have been influenced by social media, specifically by online fitness
personalities from the US and Europe, to do a hundred push-ups per day and I am currently on
the 16th day of the challenge. I have already lost about 3 lbs. of fat thanks to the motivation
that was given by body transformations seen ins social media.

Last, but not the least, even though the lockdown seems to have a negative impact on
the economy, not only in the Philippines, but the whole world as well, there is still a huge
positive effect that can be seen from globalization. Since the day that everyone was forced to
stay inside their own homes, money started to lose its importance and began to be replaced by
quality time with the family and giving contributions to the community, especially in helping
our frontliners. Huge celebrities al around the world started preparing meals for our frontliners,
which also inspired average people to start doing the same thing as well. The world is slowly
starting to heal itself and people are becoming less selfish and started showing more care
towards each other.

With the chaos and the pandemic happening outside, it is surely hard to keep a positive
mind on things. But when we come to think of it, the lockdown is not all that bad in terms of its
effects on globalization and the quality time that we get to spend each day with our own
families. Thanks to globalization, I can still talk to my friends and relatives with the help of the
internet. Thanks to technology, I am now improving my skills in cooking and baking. A favourite
quote of mine says, “You drown not by falling into the river, but by staying submerged in it.”
We all have a choice if we want to stay idle during this quarantine. But we also have the choice
to make them most out of it and think of ways that we can make every day better.
