"My Fair Lady" and "Pygmalion"

George Bernard Shaw, the son of a civil service officer was born in Dublin in 1856. George

Bernard Shaw didn’t like any kind of institution education, as a result, his education was

irregular. His one of the famous play was "Pygmalion". It is a story that tells how a young poor

girls life transform.

Pygmalion is played that tells a story of a poor young flower girl. The girl has been overlooked

and disrespected because of her poverty. To change her life, she decides to get language lessons.

The outcome of a lesson is beyond her imagines. She changes her appearance and also gains

confidence in her abilities. Eliza the main character of the player wants to learn English for

getting a job in a flower shop. She offers Professor Higgins to teach her. The play is about Eliza

and Higgin's and transformation their relationship from teacher and students to become an

essential part of each other. George Bernard Shaw does not end the play as most audios expect

rather he gives a logical ending to his audience. In the end, Eliza leaves Professor Higgins and

marry a typical middle-class man.

The musical film by George Cukor's 1964 My Fair Lady was adopted from the play named

"Pygmalion". I think the movie shows us the transformation not only for Eliza but also Professor

Higgins. He has been continuously softened by Eliza.

The ending of the movie follows the convention of a romantic comedy. The ending of

"Pygmalion" creates controversy when Eliza leaves Professor Higgins. Eliza becomes more

compliant at the end of the movie while at the end of the play she is asserting her independence.
Because we all know that by the time the movie came out woman become more independence

and class structure just turn in the love story.

We can say that "Pygmalion," is a play that is more satisfying from a feminist perspective.
