SUMMARY
Continental Drift Theory – All continents were once part of a single “supercontinent”

Pangea – Landmass of the supercontinent.

From Greek words “pan” means entire, “gaia” means earth.

Alfred Wegener : German meteorologist and physicist who first made the full statement of
continental drift hypothesis.

Evidences:

No. 1 : The Apparent Fit of the Continents

-The coastlines of the continents appear to fit together like the pieces of a puzzle.

No. 2 : Fossil Correlation

-Identical fossils have been found in the rocks on either side of the ocean.

Ex. Mesosaurus, Lytrosaurus, Cynugthus, Glossopteris

No. 3 : Rock and Mountain Correlation

-Identical rocks and mountain structures have been found on either side of the ocean.

-Geologic Structures; like mountain ranges and rock structures.

No. 4 : Paleoclimate Data

-Coal has been found in cold regions and glacial evidence has been found in warm
regions.

-Past Climate Data: Evidence of glaciers, Bituminous coal

-Alfred Wegener published a book entitled : The Origin of Continents and Oceans

-Wegener Died in November 1930 in an expedition in Grassland.
