CHAPTER VI

Design Framework

6.1 Design Philosophy

“Design must reflect the practical and aesthetic in business but above all, good design must

primarily serve people.”

– Thomas J. Watson

“Eventually everything connects – people, ideas, objects. The quality of the connection is the

key to quality.”

– Charles Eames

Design, in its broadcast sense, it is the enabler of the digital era - it’s a process that creates

order out of chaos, that renders technology usable to business. It is directed towards human

beings. To design is to solve human problems by identifying them and executing the best solution.

A truly great architecture is not controlled by catchphrases of the times. It transcends time

and space. It shows genuine respect for the environment, for people and for the universe. It is, in

short, about design that elevates and restores. It is also about design that lasts, where function

meets art in a building that is both timeless and memorable.

The creation of great public architecture is a social act, uniting people and place in a

complex and worthwhile pursuit. Public architecture is designed by people for people, now, and

for generations to come.

6.2 Design Concept

6.2.1 Major Design Concept

Taal Volcano is regarded as the world’s smallest active volcano. It has the unusual

distinction of being the world’s only volcano within a lake within a volcano within a lake within a

volcano. The largest lake is inside a large volcanic caldera that was produced hundreds of
thousands of years ago by a catastrophic eruption by a super volcano that was thousands of times

larger than Krakatua.

Sardinella tawilis or tawilis, which is often called and known throughout the province of

Batangas, is a freshwater fish found only in Taal Lake. Taal lake is the 3rd largest lake in the

Philippines.

The airport concept will also be guided based on “Biophilic Design”. Biophilic design is

an approach to architecture that seeks to connect building occupants more closely to nature.

Biophilic designed buildings incorporate things like natural lighting and ventilation, natural

landscape features and other elements for creating a more productive and healthier built

environment for people.

6.2.2 Minor Design Concept

6.2.2.1 Form

The form of the structures of the proposed airport will be designed as

remarkable and sensible building through provision of good facilities that will

provide leisure and relaxation of tourist and local guest.

6.2.2.2 Function

The organization of spaces and forms in one of the important factors to

consider in observing the function in a development or structure. It serves as a

guide on how to design the proposed international airport.

6.2.2.3 Time

The buildings will be sustainable enough to function for medium to long

term to serve the guests and tourists that will make use of them.
6.2.2.4 Economy

The proposed project will help the tourism industry by introducing the

tourism potential of Batangas Province. It will also provide jobs for the community

of San Pascual and neighboring municipalities.

6.2.2.5 Accessibility

It refers to the connection of spaces to one another. The project’s main

objective is to execute proper planning of spaces and its relation to other spaces.

The proposed international airport will also address the need of persons with

disabilities.

6.2.2.6 Circulation

It refers to the movement of person/s in a certain place. The aim of the

project is to provide an easy access and efficient circulation for the passengers.

6.2.2.7 Environment

One of the major aims of this project is to be environment-friendly.

Engaging the structure towards its environment is the key for an interactive design

for the users.

6.2.2.8 Safety and Security

The project shall ensure the security for the comfortability of the

users.
