Overweight during the Quarantine

Nowadays, we are facing one of the biggest troubles related to public health due to Covid-19,

this situation made us take different strategies to protect our life and another´s life. One of the

most effective strategies is staying at home., this solution not only has achieved to reduce the

number of people affected by the virus but also it has achieved to reduce the pollution, which has

allowed to improve the life´s quality of certain people., however, this strategy has a negative

impact over certain people. It’s evident that because of following the lockdown rules, we have to

stay at home the whole day.

Due to quarantine, some people have reduced their movement worryingly, this situation has

caused a rise in people´s weight, and as a consequence, a reduction of their health. Catherine

Turnes who is a nutritionist claimed that in quarantine the caloric waste has been reduced due to

the changes in our routine, for example, people stopped going to the work or even stopped to

making their exercise routine.

On the other hand, it's important to say that overweight is not only caused by the lack of

movement but also it is caused by the consumption of high-calorie products, that in a way, it can

be addictive and to create bad eating habits. According to the ministry of health and public

welfare, people can gain between 3 and 5 kilos in quarantine due to bad eating habits.
Similarly, we can say that overweight is a consequence of the impact of the current social

situation because, during quarantine, anxiety, concern, and boredom makes some people eat

compulsively. All people do not react that way, but people that do it can fall in sickness,

affecting the main objective of the quarantine.

To stop this situation, I proposed a solution. This solution is based on help people through a

WhatsApp group in which we shared information about health, exercise routines, and all kind of

valuable information for our wellness.

This solution is made up of three parts:

The first one is focused on people who do not know about sports activities and for reasons like,

releasing stress, mental health, or maintaining their weight, they want to star to working out or

eating healthy. We shared videos, recipes, or even our exercise routine to encourage them to join

with us to prevent sickness caused by the lack of movement or the bad eating habits presented

during the quarantine.

The second part is related to trying new virtual activities with people that you can know in the

WhatsApp group, for example creating a meeting through google meet to practice yoga,

celebrating the birthday of a friend, or any activity that helps to maintain the mental and physical

health.

The last past is called "talking time" because this part refers to talk about how do you fell and

what are the achievements that you have reached with the information given in the WhatsApp
group, besides this activity helps to have social contact, which helps to reduce the stress, anxiety,

and loneliness.

In this current situation, we have to stay together and acting in a way that benefits my needs and

as the other´s needs.
