CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter tackles about the detailed interpretation of the method implemented in this

study. Inthis part, we will also be discussing about the respondents involved in the study. This

will be followed by a discussion on what instruments were used. The chapter then goes on to

discuss the procedure of data gathering, and the statistical treatment of the data.It concludes with

a brief discussion on the ethical considerations and limitations posed by the research

methodology, as well as problems encountered during the research.

This study will provide new information regarding the Effects of School Violence to

Students and Their Coping Mechanisms by conducting a survey to know in what way (physical,

mental, social, or emotional) school violence affects a student and also how they deal with such

cruelty.

Method of Research Used

This study used the survey method of research. This dissertation described the individual

perspective regarding the coping mechanism. After the information was compiled it was then

analyzed statistically to draw conclusions about the effect caused by School Violence. Survey

method was used to gather information and experiences from selected respondents. It was

comprehended by both quantitative and qualitative research as it involves a numerical

computation as well as sharing of opinions and experiences from the respondents through survey

questionnaire.
Subjects of the Study

The subjects of this study are Grade 10 Students, mainly those who are experiencing

school violence. So, we’ve decided to conduct a survey at Bauan Technical High School because

there will be enough respondents for the study. 30 respondents were needed to answer the

questionnaire. That school has numerous students, and we’ve decided to survey Grade 10

students with the age ranging from 15-16 years old. We chose them as respondents because at

that age they are aware and familiar with school violence. Also, they are perfect for the study

because they have enough knowledge to answer our questionnaire.

Sampling Technique Used

Non-probability Sampling was the sampling technique used in this study. The chances of

being selected were unequal because we randomly gave the questionnaire in one section with 58

students that also differ in gender. We used the Convenience Sampling Method. In this method,

you will randomly select your preferred respondents that are qualified to your criteria.

Research Instruments Used

The instruments used in conducting this study were mentioned below:

1. Questionnaires. The questionnaire to be answered was handed to those students who

experienced some school violence for more reliable reference. Also used to add personal

experiences and perspective regarding school violence.

2. Self-Checklist. This was included in the questionnaire being given to students. This dealt

with the range or level of agreement of one’s self to the given situations. For statistical

purposes also.
Validation of Instruments

For the validation of the instruments used in this research, the Applied Research teacher

was the one who is in charge for the checking of the questionnaires. Also, before distributing the

questionnaire it went through an approval by the teacher.

Procedure of Data Gathering

As for the Data Gathering Procedure, there are 7 stages:

Stage 1 is in charge for creating, brainstorming, and combining ideas to form questions to

be answered.

Stage 2 deals with creating a survey questionnaire, also the validation process.

Stage 3 is conducting a survey to grasp a new set of information that can be used in the

findings as personal experience and helpful for the statistical method.

Stage 4 deals with analyzing and checking of the survey questionnaire if it was answered

completely.

Stage 5 deals with computing the statistics given from the answers and interpreting it in

tabulation.

Statistical Treatment

As for the interpretation of the gathered data, the researchers used:

1. Codes were used to interpret the corresponding answers and also to calculate it in an

easier way.
2. Verbal Interpretations were used to know the corresponding values of every answer,

and to be able to put it in tabulations and charts.
