TUTORIAL – UNIT 2

SET - A
1) Draw the SF and BM diagrams for the SSB with a triangular load as shown in figure
2) Draw the SF and BM diagrams for load as shown in figure
3) Draw the SF and BM diagrams for load as shown in figure
4) Draw the SF and BM diagrams for load as shown in figure
5) For the beam and loading shown, determine the maximum normal stress due to bending
on a transverse section at c.
6) For the beam and loading shown, determine the maximum normal stress due to
bending on a transverse section at a-a.
7) For the beam and loading shown, determine the maximum normal stress due to bending
on a transverse section at c.
8) Draw SF and BM diagram and determine maximum normal stress due to bending.
9) A rectangular section, 200 mm x 400 mm, spans a distance of 2 m. Find what UD load
can the beam section carry on this span. Permissible stresses are 7 N/mm2 in tension and
15 N/ mm2 in compression.
10) The T-section shown in Fig. is subjected to an SF of 100kN. Draw the shear stress
distribution diagram and find the maximum shear stress.
11) Compare the section moduli of two beams of the same weight if the first beam is a solid
circular beam of diameter d and the second is a circular tube of outer diameter D1 and
inner diameter D2.
12) A simply supported beam carries a uniformly distributed load of intensity 30 KN/m over
the entire span of 1 metre. The cross section of the beam is a T section having the
dimensions as shown in figure. Calculate the maximum shear stress for section of the
beam.
