General Information
Characteristics of the Drainoconcept SILENT System
®

offers an innovative solution for sound-insulation for domestic waste disposal. The function
of the system is to lower and/or eliminate the sound discharged from the waste disposal system inside
the building.

pipes is manufactured in three layer technology:

1. Outer layer is made of polypropylene plastic material showing high impact strength and rigidity.
2. Middle layer is made of reinforced mineral material which will dampen impacts and vibrations so
as to minimize noise pollution and sound waves.

GENERAL INFORMATION
3. Inner layer is designed to prevent chemical attack and corrosion and is resistant to high tempera-
ture. This layer is also characterized by a smooth surface which enhances unobstructed flow of
waste.

fittings are made of reinforced mineral mate-

rial will dampens impacts and vibrations. Furthermore, an
innovative wavy rib added to the structure of the fittings
is designed to absorb airborne and structure born sound
waves in order to make the system more efficient.

Quality Assurance … Our Mandate
system was established with the mission of providing the highest levels of quality products
to its clients.
Our mandate is to exceed the requirements stated by national and international authorities and in-
stitutions and for that to be achieved, our comprehensive quality control system starts at the very be-
ginning from the time our required specifications are laid out, to the continuous control of received
raw materials, the processing of the product which is checked regularly, packing, storage, shipping
to the customer & ends with the servicing and support system provided to our customers.

machinery, well trained skilled professionals & continuous research & development. Deviations on
quality are avoided through a stringent process of in-process data recording on the production lines
that identify real-time changes in the process. To guarantee quality, ’s state-of-art quality
control labs are utilized to perform different dimensional, physical and chemical property tests. Our
engineers undertake many tests to simulate the performance of the products under working condi-
tion. Some of the tests are:
• Dimensional and visual appearance.
• Mechanical characteristics (Impact resistance).
• Physical characteristics (Vicat softening temperature (VST), longitudinal reversion and effect of
heating).
• Acoustic behavior (Sound level).
• Water tightness and Air tightness.
• Elevated temperature cycling.

We also strongly believe and always nourish the environment of continuous quality improvement
in every aspect of our business and the enhancement of our employee knowledge and skills to
achieve their best in individual performance and team work.
This is just a glimpse of the meaning of quality at Gulf Dura industries L.L.C. which is committed to your
complete satisfaction through consistently exceeding customer’s expectations through the under-
standing of their needs and requirements.

Section III The Silent Concept

Noise & Environment

Noise pollution can negatively impact the body in residential populations. Combined sources of
noise pollution will lead to a combination of adverse effects such us sleep disturbances, elevated
blood pressure, stress and headache…etc.

The different noise generated inside the household can be due to using different appliances like
vacuum cleaners, washing machines, air conditioning, TV, Radio and also plumbing and drainage
systems. Therefore, the piping system can limit the noise that enters your space and reduce the en-
THE SILEN T CO N CEP T

vironmental noise inside the buildings.

To achieve the goal of effective noise control, one should understand the path that provides noise
through a building.

Basically there are two paths that noise may take in its transmission throughout the building:

• Air-Borne Sound
Easy to control, and the physical behavior of sound must be reemphasized. Airborne noise is incom-
ing to a space may travel through relatively sound-transport barriers. The velocity of air borne sound
is approximately 1130 feet/sec.

8
The Silent Concept
• Structure Borne Sound
Structure borne sound is by far the most difficult to control due to the speed with which sound travels
through solids. The velocity through stone is about 1,200 feet/ sec.

In order to prevent these two paths of noise, the system which is made of reinforced min-
eral material, can provide almost complete elimination of human detected sound and the achieve-
ment of a desired degree of sound comfort.

The silent system will allow the sound energy to enter the material which will severely reduce the re-
flection of sound waves. Sounds will lose their energy and vibrations before they are reflected back

into a space.

Section V Installation

Typical Installation:

pipes and fittings are recommended for above ground soil and waste disposal applica-
tions inside buildings. Underground installations are not recommended.
Fixing of pipework:

pipes must be securely fixed using rubber clamps. Over tightening should be avoided
to allow for thermal movements. Distances between pipe supports are determined in the following
table:

Maximum Support Distance

Size
IN ST A LLA T ION

Vertical (m) Horizontal (m)

32 1.2 0.5
40 1.2 0.5
50 1.2 0.7
75 1.8 1.0
90 1.8 1.3
110 1.8 1.6
125 1.8 1.8
160 1.8 2.0

Expansion Compensation:

All plastic soil and waste systems move with changes in temperature. It is vital to accommodate this
movement when making push-fit joints. As installation of a system progresses, a continuous check
should be made to ensure that the expansion allow-
ance has not been lost.

Change of Direction:

In order to achieve the required sound insulation prop-

erties of the system, certain measures must be taken
to reduce impact zones. Therefore, abrupt directional
changes should be avoided. For any 90˚ change of
direction in the transition area leading from the verti-
cal to the horizontal arrangement, instead of using 90˚
elbow it’s recommended to use 45˚ elbow with a 250
mm long pipe.

16
Installation
Embedding in Concrete:

pipes and fittings can be embedded directly into concrete. Provisions for thermal move-
ment must be taken into consideration in accordance with previous instructions.

Pipes and fittings should be fixed properly in order for their position not to be changed during ce-
mentation. Pipe ends are to be closed and the gap between pipe and socket to be sealed with
adhesive tape in order to prevent cement from seeping inside the socket gap.

Fire Protection:
I N S T A L L A T I O N
Fire protection collars are recommended to be used while installing on walls and ceilings and where
active protection measures must be taken. In case of fire or heat, a special fireproof laminate inside
the collar begins to expand and create a protective seal against transmission of fire inside the system.

17
Installation

Jointing

1. Cut the pipe square with a commercial pipe 5. Place seal ring in groove of socket
cutter or fine toothed saw. ensuring that seal is correct way round.

2. Chamfer the pipe end with a suitable

IN ST A LLA T ION

beveling machine.

6. Apply lubricant to the pipe, fitting and

seal ring.

3. Clean the spigot and socket from dust,

grit, grease and make sure to be as dry as
possible.

7. Push-fit the pipe to full socket depth.

4. Insert pipe into the socket without seal ring in

place and mark pipe when it’s fully inserted.

8. Withdraw pipe 10mm to allow for

expansion.

18
Section VI Handling & Support
Handling
• The pipe should be handled with reasonable care to avoid breakage or damage.

• The pipes and fitting s should keep away from sharp objects (Rocks, irons, stones…etc).

• Handling of silent pipes requires extra care as the added pipe weight can cause breakage.

• Temperatures in the cold range should be avoided.

• Pipes and fittings should be protected from direct Sunlight.

HA NDLING & SUPPORT

Storing
• The pipe should be protected from the sun from the effects of ultraviolet-rays and prevent heat
buildups.
