INTERNSHIP PLAN

Michigan Standard I – Visionary Leadership

Goal – Evaluate the effectiveness of our Tier II Reading Intervention program, Newsela,
as it relates to the following school-wide goal: 48% of all students will demonstrate
proficiency in all strands in reading by 6/14/19 as measured by the spring state
assessment.

Activity – Regularly observe all Tier II Intervention classes, looking primarily at the
level of student engagement and bell-to-bell instruction.

Activity – Analyze the reading data of all students that are placed into Tier II Reading
classes to ensure adequate growth. Compare our school reading data for each student in
Tier II Reading courses to that of state assessment data.

Timeline – Throughout the 2018-2019 school year and through Fall 2019 when M-Step
scores are released.

Support Needed – Next fall, I will need to have access to all 2019 M-Step scores. I will
need time to observe my Tier II Reading classes. I will also need to become more
familiar with Newsela, along with other potential options for Tier II Reading Intervention
programs.

Michigan Standard II: Cultural & Instructional Leadership

Goal – Evaluate the effectiveness of our current READ 180 and/or Corrective Reading
program(s) as it relates to the following school-wide goal: 48% of all students will
demonstrate proficiency in all strands in reading by 6/14/19 as measured by the spring
state assessment.

Activity – Explore options for the purchase of new curricular materials for READ180,
based on the analysis of student progress within the program.

Activity – Seek out appropriate training for READ180 and enable intervention team
members to attend training on the program.

Timeline – Throughout the 2018-2019 school year.

Support Needed – I will need funding to attend READ180 training for myself and my
staff members. I would like to get a go-ahead to price out updated READ180 materials.
I will also need access to all reading testing data throughout the year.
Michigan Standard III: Management of Organization, Operation, & Resources

Goal – Assist in the hiring of quality intervention aide(s) and possibly the hiring of
additional intervention teacher(s) based on the number of students that place into
Academic Intervention classes and on the funding received from the 31A Fund.

Activity – Actively recruit quality intervention staff members and/or review the
resumes of all applicants and connect with these individuals in the search for the most
qualified applicant(s).

Activity – Work to gain a better understanding of 31A Funding in order to optimize our
resources within our department.

Timeline – Throughout the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years

Support Needed – I need to meet with my administrator and the central office clerk to
gain a better understanding of 31A. I also need to gain access to any applicants that
have applied to the open positions within my department.

Michigan Standard IV: Collaboration w/Faculty, Community Members, & Families

Goal – Educate students and families about the academic intervention process, as a
whole. This includes: how students qualify for this program, the effects of the program
on overall student achievement, and the process by which students transition out of the
program.

Activity – Create and present a detailed explanation about the process for Meet the
Teacher Night.

Activity – Educate all incoming parents and students about our academic intervention
program at RMS during orientation. This may help mitigate initial resistance to our
classes at the beginning of the school year.

Timeline – Throughout the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years.

Support Needed – Time built into Meet the Teacher Night and 7th Grade Orientation
Night to present; Access to Academic Intervention data and time to analyze that data.
Michigan Standard V: Ethics, Integrity, Fairness, & Practice

Goal – To become fluent with the use of Restorative Practices with regards to handling
conflicts that arise amongst students and/or staff.

Activity – To attend training(s) on Restorative Practices and Restorative Justice.

Activity – To regularly participate in and/or lead Restorative Justice meetings, building-


wide.

Timeline – 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years

Support Needed – Restorative Practices and Restorative Justice training.

Michigan Standard VI: Student Success by Understanding, Responding to, &


Advocating for Student Learning

Goal – To assist in initiating intensive Language Acquisition classes designed for English
Language Learners.

Activity – Assist in selecting and scheduling ELL students for our newly established
Language Acquisition classes.

Activity – Analyze and monitor assessment data to ensure adequate progress is being
made and adjust the curriculum accordingly.

Timeline – 2018-2019 school year

Support Needed – Training in best strategies for ELL students; Access to ELL Testing
data
Michigan Standard VII: Substantial & Sustained Educational Leadership Internship
Experience

Goal – To complete 220 internship hours in Educational Administration

Activity – Work with my mentors to apply skills learned throughout the program to daily
administrative tasks.

Activity – Reflect on administrative experiences with the intention to continually learn


the best practices for educational leadership

Timeline – Fall 2018-Spring 2020

Support Needed – Cooperation of my mentors in allowing me to work with them and


knowledge about best practices learned throughout the program
