The Eagle
Alfred Lord Tennyson

He clasps the crags with crooked hands;


Close to the sun in lonely lands,
Ringed with the azure world he stands.
The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls;
He watches from his mountain walls
And like a thunderbolt he falls.

Suggested Study Guide:


1. Identify the type of rhyme employed in the first line.
2. Describe the location of the eagle. Is the image vivid?
3. Enumerate the qualities of the eagle which are shown in this poem.
Evaluate if the images used by the poet are appropriate in describing the
eagle.
4. Identify what figure of speech is found in the last line.
5. Express creatively the qualities of the eagle as suggested in the poem.
