THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

The main topic of the research being conducted within the community of SMS-

Boystown, Inc. is the effectiveness of the conversion of the functions of the mini go kart and its

uses within the community. The mini go kart is a simple four wheeled, small engine, single

seated racing car used mainly in United States. They were initially created in the 1950’s post-war

period by airmen as a way to pass spare time. Art Ingle is generally accepted to be the father of

karting. He built the first kart in Southern California in 1956, from then it is being popular all

over America and also in Europe. A go-kart, by definition, has no suspension and differential,

they are usually race on scaled down track, but are sometimes driven as entertainment, or as a

hubby by non-professionals karting is commonly perceived as the stepping stone to the higher

and more expensive rank of motor sport. (IOSR journal of Mechanical and Civil Engineering).

The researchers make use of the mini go kart’s effectiveness to focus on the study to be

compared to the push cart as way of transporting foods and other stuffs. The study also focuses

upon the conversion of the function of the mini go kart instead of being used for racing the

researchers make use of converting its function into transportation of foods and other stuffs. In

comparing the effectiveness of the mini go kart than the push cart, the researchers make use of

the rating scale that will be given to the workers of the community and the respondents are

chosen by purposive sampling because of some qualifications that are considered.

Kart racing is usually used as a low-cost and relatively safe way to introduce drivers to

motor racing. Many people associate it with young drivers but adults are also very active in
karting. Karting is considered as the first step in any serious racer’s career. It can prepare the

driver for high speed wheel-to-wheel racing by helping develop guide reflexes, precision car

control and decision making skills in addition, it brings an awareness of the various parameters

that can be altered to toy to improve competitiveness of the kart that also exist in other forms of

motor racing (IOSR journal of Mechanical and Civil Engineering).

In this study, the go kart’s main purpose for racing will be change to become a way of

transportation because the mini go kart is built for more uses like delivering of food, transporting

garbage and its structures is different from the other racing kart to follow its purpose because in

science structures follow its purpose. This kart will not make use of any gasoline but mainly

mechanical and electrical system to reduce pollution that makes it different from racing karts.

Statement of the Problem

The study aims to determine the effectiveness of the mini go kart in transporting of object

from one place to another. It specifically aims to determine the following:

 What is the effect of mini go kart in transporting food/garbage and other objects?

 What would be the maximum and minimum load that mini go kart can be carried

 To determine which is better mini go kart or push cart?

 Does converting the function of mini go kart promotes eco-friendly?

 Is mini go kart promoting safety driving?

 Research Hypothesis

1.Null hypothesis: There’s no effect in using mini go kart for transporting food, garbages and

other objects for convenience.

Alternative hypothesis: There is an effect in using mini go kart for transporting food,

garbages and other objects for convenience

2.Null hypothesis: Mini go kart is not comfortable for transporting objects from one place to

another in the community.

Alternative hypothesis: Mini go kart is comfortable for transporting objects from one place to

another in the community.

3. Null hypothesis: Mini go kart does not promote safety in driving.

Alternative hypothesis: Mini go kart does promote safety in driving.

4. Null hypothesis: There’s no specific minimum and maximum weight that can be carried by

mini go kart.

Alternative hypothesis: There’s specific minimum and maximum weight that can be carried

by mini go kart.

5. null hypothesis: converting the function of mini go kart does not promote eco friendly

transportation.
 Alternative hypothesis: converting the function of mini go kart does promote eco- friendly

transportation.

6. Null hypothesis: Mini go kart is not better than push cart using rating scale

Alternative hypothesis: mini go kart is better than push cart using rating scale.

Scope and Delimitations

The study aims to provide information about the effectiveness and impact of the mini go-

kart as a seen solution for the existing problem in the community. The problem is about

converting the functions of mini go kart into usable transportation within the community.

The chosen participants for this study are the workers (kitchen workers, maintenance),

drivers and automotive teachers in the Sisters of Mary School-Boystown, Inc. within the district

of Tungkop, Minglanilla, Cebu (2020-2021).

In order to assure manageability of the collected data, the instrument used by the

researchers is the rating scale questionnaire. The study is limited only to all the workers, drivers

and automotive teachers who worked in the Sisters of Mary School-Boystown, Inc.

The researchers used the purposive sampling technique wherein the participants will be

chosen because of some qualification that fits to the participants. The chosen participants are the

workers (kitchen workers and maintenance), drivers and automotive teachers because they have

a lot of experience and acquired knowledge that can be applied to the study.
Significance of the Study

The researchers will explore the possible enhancement of the model of mini go kart for

more functionality and helpful way for the help in the community with the use of alternative

technology. This study will benefit in the following:

School

This study will benefit the school because this will add to the published study and will

add to advantages of the school and this will enhance the technology of the school especially in

the automotive technology as this mini go kart was inspired in automotive technology.

Automobile workshop

The automobile workshop will use the product as a sample of mini kart for the visitors

visiting the school and it can be used as a practice for driving instead of cars for control of the

steering wheel and safety.

Students

The students will be inspired to explore more about their specification and make a

product. Moreover, the students will benefit in this study because the students can make use of

this in transporting heavy objects from other area of the school and this can also be used for the

practice in driving.

Future researchers
 For the future researchers, this study will guide them to also create their own

enhancement for the model of the mini go kart for more function and durability. The future

researchers can also make use of this for the related studies of their study.

Definition of Terms

Conversion

Transforming the function of a certain object.

for racing come in all shapes and form, from motor less models to high-powered racing
