Summary ISO
Standardization
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) founded in 1947 and concerned with
standardization in almost all fields. Its membership extends to over 160 countries and in
most of them, with the exception of Western industrial countries, is a governmental
organization acting as the “most representative of standardization in its country”.
Standardization affects many different fields and covers a variety of sectors, from food
safety to technology. It helps international trade and protects consumers by issuing
certificates and allowing the comparison of products across markets. ISO establishes
technical committees to resolve issues of standardization and periodically reviews the ISO
standards.
