Organizations

These are international organizations that


creates/formulates/sets the standards of all the food and beverage
related businesses should follow to ensure the safety of the
general consumer population.

Organizations

or
World Health Organization
(WHO)

The World Health Organization (WHO)is a group that focuses in health


issues. Their scope ranges world wide. This international organization is a
member organization of United Nations (UN) for 60 years to present. They
had been working on world health related issue such as pandemics, family
planning, childhood immunization and maternal morbidity rate.

As part of their focus, they too helped in setting the standard for
food industry to protect the health of the consumers worldwide.
Food and Agriculture Organization
The Food and Agriculture Organization
better known as FAO. This UN agency have
their advocacy of defeating hunger all over
the globe. They help their member country
improve it’s agriculture, forestry and
fisheries practices through modernization.
In that way, they’ll be able to achieve
their goal which is to improve local
economies and promote sustainability.
Codex Alimentarius Commission

is an intergovernmental organization
of the Food and Agriculture
Organizations of the United Nations
(FAO), the 188 member countries of
the World Health Organizations (WHO)
and the European Union. Together,
they worked to create international
food standard that all members are
now abiding to protect the consumer’s
health and ensure fair trade
practices

 
Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was established as a


government agency after the Federal Food and Drugs Act
has been approved in 1906.

It oversees and sets regulatory standards of products and


facilities involving the production of food, drugs,
cosmetics, animal food, dietary supplements, medical
devices, biological goods and blood products.

In connection, FDA is responsible for approving products


that can be sold in the market specially in the US. On
the other hand, they can as well recall products from the
market if the safety of the general public is at risk.
International Organization for
Standardization

ISO or the International Organization for Standardization would have


different acronym depending on the member country. Thus, the founders have
had decided to use ISO. It came from the Greek word isos, which means equal.

ISO is an independent, non governmental organization with 164 member nations.


The member organizations collaborates in developing and promoting
international standards for technology, scientific testing process, working
conditions societal issue, et al.

One of the standards that the Hotel and Tourism Industry follows is the ISO
31000. This is a risk management framework standardization which basically
defines the risk and associated terms and offers guidelines of any person,
business and or agency.
World Trade Organization
The World Trade Organization (WTO) the only
global intergovernmental organization that deals
with the rules of trading between nations. They are
responsible in negotiating and signing the majority
of the world’s trade. They basically play a major
role in the trade agreement of the concerned member
governments and sort out any trade problems in
between. Their main goal is to assist the producers
of goods and services,
exporters and importers
conduct their
trade/business.
GFSi

The Global Food Safety


Initiative (GFSi) is a
private organization with the
objective of establishing the development of food safety
management systems. This is to ensure that safety and
standard processing of food are being observed in the
food facilities. Thus, GSFi oversees and approves
different auditing platforms as meeting criteria. This
allows gold-standard recognition to specific food safety
audits.

can be neglected. The main focus of the business owners
should be the establishment’s profitability.
