There is fierce discussion about at what age childrenshould start to learn forein languages. Many
people think that the sooner they start to learn the better, but the others do not agree with this
opinion. Udeniably, this is a positive development in many ways, and yet there are also certain
drawbacks.
There is no doubt that children at young age acquire knowledge very easily. By that they can learn
languages much very effectively. This development is well seen in families, which emigrate. Most
of the children from that type of families can speak in their parents first language and in the
language of the country in which they are located.
Having said this, there are also minuses. Since if children would not like to continue the learning
process of the language or they stop using it, they will forgot the majority of their knowledge of this
language. This situation may not make parents happy, which just wanted to educate their children.
All things considered, there are disadvantages and benefits related with learning children a foreign
language from a very young age. To my mind the benefits clearly outweigh the drawbacks, because
nowadays a knowledge of many laguages is very valued on labor market and makes communication
easier in other countries.
