The hydraulic system pressure has been increased on the 320D/320D RR to 35 000 kPa (5,076 psi)
from 34 300 kPa (4,975 psi), which is an increase of 2%. The increased hydraulic pressure gives
the 320D/320D RR advantages over the 320C/320C U in the following areas:

More Drawbar Pull

The drawbar pull of the 320D/320D RR has been increased 2% (+4 kN [900 lb]) over the 320C/320C U.
The additional drawbar pull will increase the machines capabilities in the following functions:

• Performance traveling up slopes

• Easier spot turns

• Better travel capabilities in poor underfoot conditions

Increased Breakout Forces

Breakout forces for the 320D/320D RR have been increased (4-5%) for certain sticks/buckets due to the
system pressure increases. The Mass Stick (M2.4) bucket cylinder bore has been increased 5 mm (0.2 in)
and has larger bucket pins, now 90 mm (3.5 in) each.

Increased Lift Capacity

The overall lift capacity of the 320D/320D RR has been increased by an average of 2% over the
320C/320C U. Over the front, the excavator is generally limited to its hydraulic capacity, so increasing
pressures will give those points in the working envelope additional lift capacity. Over the side is generally
limited by stability (track comes off the rollers), so increasing pressures will only affect overall lift over
the side minimally.

Spring Recoil System

The Spring Recoil System relieves abnormal track tension that results from mud packing or when material
gets stuck between the tracks and the sprockets. Extensive tension appears when the spring recoil is at
maximum stroke which could lead to final drive breakage, idler breakage or undercarriage frame bending.
The Spring Recoil System stroke on the 320D/320D RR has been increased 26% (45 mm to 57 mm [1.8 in
to 2.2 in]), which allows sufficient clearance between the track and the sprocket, plus preserves the
undercarriage components and frame.
