This week discussion is about choosing the insurance companies that we are going to
present next week. First, we discussed about how the company profile in the presentation
should be made. A good company profile must include all the information needed about the
company. We also discussed the vision and mission each of the companies that my group
and other group choose. We compared the other group’s company, which is PT Panin
Insurance Tbk, with my group’s PT Lippo Insurance Tbk. We analyze the vision and mission
of both these companies and try to identify the competitive advantage of one company over
another. Then, we found one. PT Lippo Insurance’s mission is to be “one of the leading
general insurers in the world with a strong access of international in the international
networks”. This is something that we did not find in Panin’s vision. Lippo is trying to achieve
success in both domestic and international market, whereas Panin currently focusing on the
domestic market. Lastly, we discussed the products that these two companies offer. PT
Lippo Insurance offers a wide variety of Health Insurance and non-life insurance. The non-
life insurance, or general insurance includes Auto Insurance, Travel Insurance, Home
Insurance, etc.

Competitive advantage is something that every companies should thrive for. This brings us
to the first topic that is discussed in the earlier session of the class. Operation of the
company consists of two core components, which is revenue and cost. Revenue mainly
comes from the sales of the company. To increase the sales, company should have a high
market share. In order for them to increase their market share, company should have a
competitive advantage over another competitors; what makes them difference among
others. In addition, we also discussed whether a company is a stand-alone company, or they
are a part of a groups. A company that is a part of groups has a higher revenue stream than
company who does not.
