Report on Lesson Plan

Text : I don’t Speak Malay


Skill : Writing

Overall, the lesson plan is interesting and could attract the students to feel enjoyed
while learning the language in class. It is related to the theme given, friendship. The
idea of making appreciation card is awesome because it can show the creativity
among the students, not only to improve their writing skill. After the card is
complete, then the writing skill comes in whereby students need to write the
reasons of appreciating their dedicated friends. This is good, as in this lesson, the
teacher also inculcates values for the students to learn. At the end of the lesson,
once all the cards are ready, they will be pasted on the classroom walls. This could
make the students feel more appreciated.
However, in the whole process of teaching and learning, there are a few things that
need to be highlighted based on the lesson plan. There are;
1. Time
Teacher has to make sure the lesson is carried out in within the stipulated time.
Since there are a lot of activities to be carried out in the lesson plan, the teacher has
to manage the time accordingly. Teacher has to focus on the important activity
rather than to have all activities mentioned in the lesson plan. For examples, the
discussion of adjectives should be carried out in another lesson.
2. Starter
This session seems too long. Teacher has to find other interesting activity that
only takes about 5 minutes for starter. It is just an overview about the lesson that is
going to be carried out.
3. Activity 1 - making appreciation card.
The text ‘I don’t speak Malay’ has to be distributed to students before they start
making appreciation card. Reading needs concentration and if the text reading is
carried out after making appreciation card, the students might have lost their focus.
They might continue making the card. Besides, the students have to understand first
about the value of friendship. This can be done while teacher having the discussion
of the text.
4. Activity 2
The inclusion of grammar component which is adjective, is good. However, the
teacher should stress it out indirectly and the students does not have to list
examples of adjectives on a bubble map. It is time consuming and perhaps this can
be done in another lesson.
5. Gallery walk.
It is such a good activity. However, I think the teacher should ask the students to
make appreciation card in pairs. So, all students will have a chance to get the
appreciation card and nobody will get frustrated of not receiving any appreciation
card.
6. Worksheet - the picture of Spongebob & friends
I think the teacher should not use that picture. Instead, the teacher can use any
pictures of a group of school students who represent the 4 main characters in the
text I don’t Speak Malay. Then, the teacher can ask the students to describe each
character.
In conclusion, this lesson plan is good but there are a lot of aspects that needs to be
improvised.
