DIY Key Holder featuring Jeepney String Art

The art piece acts mainly as a key holder. However, besides this, it also features the beauty of
the Jeepney, a local mode of transportation in the Philippines. The jeepney in the art piece is formed
using string art. It may seem hard to do, but it is not. It is easy even for beginners but consumes a lot of
time and patience. These are the materials and procedure on how it was made:

Materials

 Plyboard (13 in. X 8.5 in.)

 Wood Varnish
 Hammer
 Nails (1 inch)
 String (white)
 Dye (Red, yellow, white, black, grey, green, blue, orange)
 J Screw Hook (4 pieces)
 Screw Eye Hook (1 piece)
 Tape (1/2 inch wide)
 Paint brush
 Paint (red, blue yellow)
 Clear Nail Polish

Procedure

1. Paint the plyboard with the varnish. Set aside and wait for it to dry.
2. Cut seven (7) pieces of 1-meter-long strings and one (1) piece of a 1-meter-long string. Dye the
seven (7) 1-meter-long strings to the dye colored yellow, white, black, grey, green, blue and
orange. Also, dye the 2-meter-long string with red. Set aside and wait for it to dry.
3. Create a template of the jeepney.
4. Hammer the nails into the plyboard, following the outline of the jeepney template. The nails
must have around half an inch distance from each other. Also, only half of the nails’ body must
be buried in the wood.
5. Color the jeepney by creating a web of strings using the different dyed strings. Always
remember to tie the strings to the nails before and after stringing.
6. Since the main string art was already formed, it is now time to design the background. Stick
some tape to the surroundings of the jeepney. It must look like rays coming from the jeepney.
Next, in an alternating pattern of red, blue and yellow, color the space between the tapes.
Remove the tape and wait for the paint to dry.
7. Apply some clear nail polish to the string art as well as the background to give the art piece a
shiny look.
8. Lastly, screw the screw eye hook at the center of the very top of the board and the four J screw
hook to the bottom part of the wood. Make sure that the four J screw hook are equally distant
from each other. Tadaaaaaa! The art piece is now finished.
