1 INTRODUCTION
Cyberbase Serial 3200 (Man Machine Computer, MMC), is one of several control stations
made by National Oilwell (NOI). It is designed as a tool to improve the communication
between the operator and the machines/processes to be controlled. It is an ergonomic
workstation designed for continuous seated operation where it is possible to obtain
different type of information through a screen-based system. Total integration with other
systems is fully possible.
Cyberbase is a standard product from NOI based on standard software, electrical
hardware and mechanical parts.

1.1 General
This operation manual describes the operations in conjunction with the day-to-day running
of the Cyberbase

It is essential that the equipment operators have the required knowledge, education and
training before using the system.

4 OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS

4.1 General

The Cyberbase CT chair can be delivered in different out fitting, with or without PLC and
server, monitors and also the control devices can be specified or mounted by customer.
This document is describing the general principles of the Cyberbase, alterations made by
customer must be specified separately.

Operation of the Cyberbase System may vary depending on the application the system is
designed for. E.g. a Cyberbase applied to drilling operations may be slightly different from
a Cyberbase used for ROV control. However, the concept is the same: The combination of
a highly ergonomic design and powerful embedded computer technology give the operator
an optimal working environment, where the Cyberbase System's software defines the
control and monitoring facilities for any interactive working task.

The Cyberbase System is operated by means of integrated control devices and graphical
screens.
All control devices are found on the armrests of a Cyberbase unit:

• A mode switch which will enable the various control facilities in the Cyberbase System
• Joysticks for control tasks
• Keypads for control tasks
• A pointing device for pointing and clicking objects on the graphical screens (same
function as a mouse on a PC)
• A numerical keyboard for input of set points, alarm limits etc.
• Emergency stop/Shutdown buttons

All operational feedback and supervision and monitoring information are presented on the
graphical screens.

4.2 Starting the Cyberbase

The Cyberbase system will start automatically after power-up, a process that normally
takes a couple of minutes.

Revision 01
Page 7

4.3 Logging on to the system

For some applications, after the Cyberbase has started, the operator may be requested to
log on to the system before he is given access to the control and monitoring facilities. This
is done by first selecting an operator category, followed by typing in a 4-digit password.

4.4 Enabling/Disabling the control functions

To enable the Cyberbase control functions, the mode switch on the left armrest must be
turned to an active position. Normally, the position marked "1" is Standby mode, a safe
state, where all control facilities of the Cyberbase are disabled. A Cyberbase unit should
always be turned to Standby mode when an operation is completed or the Cyberbase chair
is left.

Independent of whether the control functions are enabled or disabled, all supervision and
monitoring facilities are always available on the graphical screens. However, access to
some facilities may be restricted, depending on the log-on code.

4.5 Emergency stop

Most Cyberbases will have an emergency stop button on the left armrest. This button acts
independently of the computer system, and will stop the equipment and machinery
connected to the emergency stop wiring.

4.6 Logging off the system

On a Cyberbase system where the operator is requested to log on to the system, the
operator should also log out whenever the system is left unattended or the operation is
completed. Logging off is associated with an "Exit"-button found on the screens.

4.7 Stopping the Cyberbase

Normally the Cyberbase system will not be stopped, but will run continuously. However, if
a Cyberbase must be stopped due to maintenance work etc., it is important that the
following sequence is followed:
1. Stop the application software and the operating system (this is described in the
operation and maintenance manual for the software)
2. Wait till the message, "It is now safe to turn off your computer", appear on the screen.
This will normally take up to a minute
3. Turn of the power.

5 OPERATING OF CHAIR UNIT

The Cyberbase unit is equipped with an ergonomic Recaro chair. The chair is constructed
to fulfill all requirements for seated operations. The chair can move up and down
electrically and be turned around manually, a rotation lock for normal position can be
installed. The seat can be moved back and forth manually. The seat back and the neck
rest can be adjusted manual.
The control devices are placed in front of the operator in a logical and functional way,
which makes the operation of the different systems easy. There is one joystick and
functional keyboard on each side of the chair for control of the equipment. In addition there
is a mode switch and emergency stop on the left control panel and a numerical keyboard
and a joystick mouse on the right control panel.

Each panel on the chair can be opened for service access to the components inside the
chair consoles.

There is no need for labels on the panel plates, as the function of the control devices are
displayed on the monitors, depending on the operation and state of process.

The following list describes the operation of the various functions on the chair unit.

7 MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

This chapter describes the necessary maintenance for the Cyberbase unit in order to
ensure safe, reliable and economical operation.

7.1 Periodic Maintenance

Periodic maintenance that may be performed by the operator is described below.

7.1.1 Chair and monitors

Cleaning:
Panels: Use mild soap water for cleaning of the panel surface
Seat: Use special soap/water mixture.
Metal: Use mild soap water
Instruments: Use mild soap water

Note: Clean with damp cloth to avoid static electricity

Preventive maintenance:
Apply grease on the rails for the seat to reduce wear/tear on the rails

7.1.2 Routine Inspections

The table below lists various routine inspections for preventive maintenance.
Event Performed with intervals Component Procedure
no. as indicated below

7.3 Minor repairs and corrections

The following sections describe minor repairs and corrections for the main components.
Minor repairs can be carried out at customer facilities with assistance of NOI service
personnel or with personnel from customer in conjunction with procedures/instructions
supplied by NOI. Power supply to the unit should be off.

7.3.1 Cyberbase Chair

Change of components in control panels

If one of the components in the left or right control panel needs to be replaced, we
recommend replacing the whole control panel. This requires less down time than what
replacing of single components will. The problems with the damaged control panel should
then be fix up, and kept as spare part. To open and replace the control panel unscrew all
screws at the joint between the control panel and the black aluminum. The panel can now
be lifted up, then rotated/opened and is being hold by hinges. Loosen all connections,
P/S2 cables, terminal blocks, earth cables etc. then loosen the control panel from the
hinges and replace it with the spare control panel.

7.4 Major repairs and modifications

Major repairs and modifications must be performed by NOI service personnel. The
modifications can be done at customer’s facilities or at NOI. Modifications must be done in
co-operation with the design basis for the Cyberbase and must be performed according to
the Cyberbase specifications.
