SARscape 5.4

Who we are

sarmap is a Swiss company funded in 1998. Its mission is to build and provide innovative remote
sensing based solutions for the provision of digital information.

Core activities:
• SARscape and OPTICALscape – a set of modules, embedded in ENVI and worldwide distributed by
HARRIS, for the processing of spaceborne and airborne SAR and optical data.
• Digital Elevation Model based on spaceborne and airborne SAR systems, and, more recently, on the
synergetic use with stereo-optical data and UAV.
• Land displacements for the measurement and modelling of Earth movements up to mm level.
• Agricultural services targeted to food security and insurance applications. A dedicated remote
sensing processing chain MAPscape-RICE has been developed.
• Forest services targeted to certification and insurance applications. A dedicated remote sensing
processing chain MAPscape-TransparentForests has been developed.

Clients are governments, international bodies, NGOs, research centers, remote sensing and multi-
national technology companies, and re-/insurance sector.

Parallel Computing and Cluster solutions

More ground covers are required and the new sensors (e.g.
Sentinel) provides very big data.

Processing times longer and longer…

Parallel computing and cluster solutions are necessary!

SARscape 5.4

Parallel Computing and Cluster solutions

Solutions based on the joint use of algorithm exploiting parallel computing and cluster
architecture:
• SARscape users (clients) delegating processing requests to the cluster.
• Cluster nodes, one per available CPU or GPU.
• Orchestrator managing clients and nodes.

Opticalscape

 OPTICALscape – embedded in ENVI Standard – is a modular set of functions

supporting the generation of Digital Surface Model (DSM) and ortho-rectified (pan-
sharpened) images/mosaics based on:
• Spaceborne optical stereo and triplet images;
• UAV optical multiple stereo images.

 The spaceborne module, additionally, includes a dedicated functionality enabling the

fusion of elevation data acquired from other sensors and techniques,
particularly SAR interferometry (refer to SARscape Interferometry module).
