Steps to complete this activity:
Scenario: While walking in downtown Ann Arbor, you see posters titled “Clear the
Arb”. The proposal promotes clearing the land surrounding the local arboretum
in order to build more parking spaces for U of M’s Hospital.
1. You will play two roles: the advocate as well as the critic. For each, create a concept map.
(Yes, you will turn in 2 concept maps).
2. For each role, you will place yourself in the shoes of the specific perspective. You may use
outside resources to gage the responses an advocate or critic of this plan could hold.
3. You will state the role in the center. Your map must include the following:
1. The Perspective/Why
2. A Plan of Action for the Proposal
3. Environmental Impact (relate to cellular respiration)
4. Human Impact (relate to cellular respiration)
5. Economical Impact
**Designing it is up to you. Feel free to use paper, powerpoint, or any resources you
have at home!**
4. Lastly, choose a side! There is no right or wrong! In one paragraph (4-5 complete
sentences), state your perspective. Use the concept maps created to support your own
reasoning!
