LEARNING PLAN

SCIENCE 9
1st Quarter: Week 1-2

Topic: Respiratory and Circulatory Systems Working with the other Organ Systems
Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of:
 how the different structures of the circulatory and respiratory systems work
together to transport oxygen-rich blood and nutrients to the different parts of the
body.
 the prevention, detection, and treatment of diseases affecting the circulatory
and respiratory systems.
Performance Standard: The learners should be able to:
 conduct an information dissemination activity on effective ways of taking care of
the respiratory and circulatory systems based on data gathered from the school or
local health workers
Dominican Core Value Focus: Joy, Spirituality
Most Essential Learning Competencies:
1. Explain how the respiratory and circulatory systems work to transport nutrients, gases, and other
molecules to and from the different parts of the body and; Infer how one’s lifestyle can affect the
functioning of respiratory and circulatory systems.
Learning Target: Functions and Parts of Respiratory and Circulatory System
Learning Goals:
Essential Question: How do the respiratory and circulatory systems contribute in sustaining life
processes?
Enduring Understanding: Organs and organs systems work together within the human body to
perform specific functions.
Stages Activities
Week 1 Pre-Assessment

EXPLORE (Day 1) Activity 1: K-W-H-L

Fill in the K-W-H-L Chart below to assess your prior knowledge and
understanding of the topic, Respiratory and Circulatory Systems, Working with
the other Organ Systems.

Activity 2:Video Viewing

Let the learners Follow this link: http://video.about.com/firstaid/How-to-
Perform-Hands-Only- CPR.htm in order to have a better idea of what CPR is
about and how it can turn around potentially life-threatening situations.
Process Questions:
1.What ideas on CPR did you learn after watching this video?
2. How can CPR help in making nutrients flow well in the body?
FIRM UP Activity 3: Webpage Reading/Article Reading
Read the articles below by following the links provided. These articles present
in a student-friendly way how the heart and lungs perform their lead roles for
the circulatory and respiratory systems, respectively.
http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_body/body_basics/heart.html# - What the Heart
& Circulatory System Do
http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_body/body_basics/heart.html# - Lungs and
Respiratory System: What They Do
Process Questions:
1.Why is it important that the heart and lungs are kept healthy?
2. Do you think the heart and lungs should work together when they perform
their functions? Why?
3. How can nutrients flow well in the body?

Activity 4:Video Viewing

Let the students learn more about the heart and the lungs and the rest of the
system by viewing the videos found in the following links:
http://www.teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=256514 – Respiratory
System (starting at 4:50 mark)
http://sumanasinc.com/webcontent/animations/content/humanheart.html -
Blood Flow through the Human Heart

Process Questions:
1.What are the two types of circulation? Differentiate the two according to
purpose.
2. Describe how oxygen gets distributed to the cells of the body.
3. Describe how nutrients get distributed to the cells of the body. Is there any
difference between how oxygen and nutrients are distributed? Explain.

Activity 5: Trace the Path

In the given framework of the human body below, illustrate the blood flow and
gas exchange in the respiratory and circulatory systems using diagrams and
arrows.

Process Questions:
1.What takes place when you inhale and exhale?
2.What does blood deliver to every part of the body?
3.Why is oxygen important to your body?
4.How do the heart and the lungs work together?
5.How will you describe the sequence of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and blood
flow in your own words?

DEEPEN Activity 9: Picture Analysis

Using the pictures found below, infer the likely consequences of these sample
circulatory and respiratory conditions.
Activity 10: Viewing Video
Let the students watch a video about the effects of cigarette smoking in
respiratory system and circulatory system
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwuwrRK-I2Y
Activity 10: Let’s Organize
After viewing this video, you will use a graphic organizer to show your
understanding of how certain respiratory conditions caused by smoking may
affect gas exchange.
Process Questions:
1. What might disrupt the free flow of substances, like oxygen and carbon
dioxide, in the body? Discuss.
2. Infer how one’s lifestyle can affect the functioning of respiratory and
circulatory systems.
TRANSFER Activity 11: Post Assessment-K-W-H-L
Let the students fill in the last part of a K-W-H-L Chart below to assess their
knowledge and understanding of the topic, Respiratory and Circulatory
Systems, Working with the other Organ Systems.
Activity 12: Performance Tasks: Information Dissemination

Create a infographics or video that present helpful information to the public

about effective ways of taking care of the respiratory and circulatory systems
on this time of COVID 19 pandemic.
