One Simple Tip to Effectively Develop Your Essay

The IELTS Essay is often thought of as the most challenging, and therefore, among the most feared
segments of the IELTS. This is easy to see, as it does require a lengthy output that must possess the answers
sought in the essay, meet the different criteria for a good essay (like adherence to grammar rules) and be
accomplished within the given time frame.
It does seem quite a bit of a challenge. But there is a simple way to address it and better your chances of
doing well in your essay. You only need to take note of this one simple tip─develop your essay one segment
(Introduction, Body and Conclusion) at a time.
You say, develop the segments one at a time? But they are interconnected and they sum up to the same
length as the whole essay anyway?
Yes, that is right. But you need to put your attention to them one at a time as you develop your essay. Let
us see some samples:

I. Developing the Introduction

A. State your Topic, Point or Position

When you have decided what you will be discussing in your essay, the best way to begin it is to express
just that, express the point that you will be discussing or defending in your essay.

Examples:
1. It is always best to travel light.
2. Many prefer to see the world travelling light.

B. Start with a Question

When introducing your point, you can use a question instead of expressing your point as a simple
sentence.

Examples:
1. What is the best way to travel?
or
Would it be best to travel light?
2. Is seeing the world better when you travel light?
