AGENCY, n. [L. agens. See Act.]

1. The quality of moving or of exerting power; the state of being in
action; action; operation; instrumentality; as, the agency of providence
in the natural world. {NWAD AGENCY.2} – Noah Webster’s 1828

Noah Webster’s 1828 Dictionary, vol.1, p.126

Three distinct agencies, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost,
work together for human beings. They are united in the work of making
the church on earth like the church in heaven. They place the resources
of heaven at the disposal of those who will appreciate and impart these
spiritual treasures, multiplying them by using them to the glory of God.
Every diligent effort to improve adds to the gifts we have. The powers
of heaven work with human beings on the plan of
multiplication. {Ms27a-1900 (April 19, 1900) par. 22} (1900.04.19)
https://egwwritings.org/?ref=en_Ms27a-1900.22&para=8384.28
At the baptismal ceremony we virtually take a most solemn oath in
the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, that
henceforth our lives will be merged into the life of these three great
individual Agencies; that the life we now live in the flesh we will live
in faithful obedience to God’s sacred and holy law, keeping all His
statutes and His commandments; that we will live in newness of life as
men and women having a new birth unto God. We, as new born souls
born to live in newness of life, acknowledge God’s covenant, that [we]
are in reality pledging ourselves by a solemn oath to seek henceforth
those things which are above where Christ sitteth on the right hand of
God. By our profession of faith we acknowledge the Lord as our God,
and pledge ourselves to obey His commandments. {Ms68-1900
(November 30, 1900) par. 12} (1900.11.30)
https://egwwritings.org/?ref=en_Ms68-1900.12&para=9054.18

At the time of our baptism, we pledged ourselves in the presence of

the three most powerful agencies of heaven—the Father, the Son,
and the Holy Ghost—that we would henceforth walk in newness of
life. At the same time, all Heaven pledged itself to endow us with the
power of the Holy Spirit. The fulfilment of our pledge is represented in
the third chapter of Colossians: “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek
those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of
God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For
ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who
is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory.
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth.” [Verses 1-
5.] Read the entire chapter. In striving to win in the Christian conflict,
we are not to try to overcome in our own strength, but in the strength of
these mighty Powers that have promised to lead and guide us onward to
victory. {Lt160-1903 (March 1903) par. 3} (1903.03)
https://egwwritings.org/?ref=en_Lt160-1903.3&para=8286.9
By our baptismal pledge we avouched and solemnly confessed the
Lord Jehovah as our Ruler. We virtually took a solemn oath, in the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, that
henceforth our lives would be merged into the life of these three great
agencies, that the life we should live in the flesh would be lived in
faithful obedience to God’s sacred law. We declared ourselves dead,
and our life hid with Christ in God, that henceforth we should walk with
Him in newness of life, as men and women having experienced the new
birth. We acknowledged God’s covenant with us and pledged ourselves
to seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right
hand of God. By our profession of faith we acknowledged the Lord as
our God and yielded ourselves to obey His commandments. By
obedience to God’s Word we testify before angels and men that we live
by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. {Ms67-1907

https://egwwritings.org/?ref=en_Ms67-1907.12&para=9280.19

Man’s capabilities can multiply through the connection of human

agencies with divine agencies. United with the heavenly powers, the
human capabilities increase according to that faith that works by love
and purifies, sanctifies, and ennobles the whole man. The heavenly
powers have pledged themselves to minister to human agents to make
the name of God and of Christ and of the Holy Spirit their living
efficiency, working and energizing the sanctified man, to make this
name above every other name. All the treasures of heaven are under
obligation to do for man infinitely more than human beings can
comprehend by multiplying threefold the human with the heavenly
agencies. {Ms45-1904 (May 14, 1904) par. 17} (1904.05.14)

The Holy Spirit - a free, working, independent agency (1894-
1910)

The operating agency was not revealed to view; men could not tell
whence it came, or whither it went. They could not define by what law
it was governed; but they could see what it produced by its action. No
human reasoning of the most learned man can define the operations of
the Holy Spirit upon human minds and characters; yet they can see the
effects upon the life and actions. The Holy Spirit is a free, working,
independent agency. The God of heaven uses his Spirit as it pleases
him, and human minds and human judgment and human methods can
no more set boundaries to its working, or prescribe as to the channel
through which it shall operate, than they can say to the wind, “I bid you
to blow in a certain direction, and to conduct yourself in such and such
a manner.” {Lt54-1894 (June 10, 1894) par. 9} (1894.06.10); {RH
May 5, 1896, par. 2} (1896.05.05)

https://egwwritings.org/?ref=en_RH.May.5.1896.par.2&para=821.14931

The Holy Spirit is a free, working, independent agency. The God

of heaven uses His Spirit as it pleases Him; and human minds, human
judgment, and human methods can no more set boundaries to its
working, or prescribe the channel through which it shall operate, than
they can say to the wind, “I bid you to blow in a certain direction, and
to conduct yourself in such and such a manner.” As the wind moves in
its force, bending and breaking the lofty trees in its path, so the Holy
Spirit influences human hearts, and no finite man can circumscribe its
work. {ST March 8, 1910, par. 2} (1910.03.08)

The three great Instrumentalities of heaven (1901)

INSTRUMENTALITY, n.

end; as the instrumentality of second causes. Noah Webster’s 1828

INSTRUMENTALITY, n.
The quality or condition of being instrumental ; that which is
instrumenlal; agency. "The instrumentality of faith is justification."

INSTRUMENTAL, a. [Fr., Pr., Sp., & Pg. instrumental, It.

instrumentale, instrumentale; strumentale]
1. Acting as an instrument; serving as a means; contributing to promote;
conducive; helpful; serviceable.
The head is not more native to the heart, The hand more instrumental
to the mouth. [Shak]
2. Pertaining to, made by, or prepared for, musical instruments; as,
instrumental music, distinguished from vocal music. He defended the
use of instrumental music in public, on the
Ground that the notes of the organ had a power to couteractt the
influence of devils. [Macaulay]

Those who come out of the world in spirit and in all practice may
regard themselves as sons and daughters of God. They may believe His
word as a child believes every word of his parents. Every promise is
sure to him that believes. Those who unite with the Father, the Son,
and the Holy Spirit, who show by their lives that they are no longer
following the course they followed before they united with these divine
instrumentalities, will receive wisdom from above. They will not
depend on human wisdom. In order to deal righteously with the world,
as members of the royal family, children of the heavenly King,
Christians must feel their need of a power which comes only from the
heavenly agencies who have pledged themselves to work in their behalf.
After we have formed a union with the great threefold power, we
shall regard our duty toward the members of God’s family with a much
more sacred awe than we have ever done before. This is a phase of
religious reform that very few appreciate. Those who seek to answer the
prayer, “Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven” [Matthew 6:10],
will seek by living pure, sanctified lives to show to the world how the
will of God is done in heaven. {Ms11-1901 (February 5, 1901) par. 8}
(1901.02.05)
https://egwwritings.org/?ref=en_Ms11-1901.8&para=9023.14

Christ is the greatest Teacher the world has ever known. From Him
teachers must learn what to teach, that by their lessons they may show
that they are striving to answer His prayer. The fruits of His rich grace
will appear as they receive His glory, or character. Their unity will be
complete. Their lives, hid with Christ in God, will be made perfect in
one. The excellence of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit will
appear in them as, in conformity with their baptismal vows, they give
themselves to obedience to God’s will. The Redeemer gives them the
glory given to Him. The three great Instrumentalities of heaven co-
operate for their complete and perfect unity, that the world may see in
their lives the fruit of heaven and the excellence of the principles of
truth. {Ms11-1901 (February 5, 1901) par. 19} (1901.02.05)

The three great and glorious heavenly characters (1904)

The three great and glorious heavenly characters are present on

the occasion of baptism. All the human capabilities are to be
henceforth consecrated powers to do service for God in representing the
Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost upon whom they depend. All
heaven is represented by these three in covenant relation with the new
life. “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things that are above,
where Christ sitteth at the right hand of God.” [Colossians 3:1.] {Ms45-

The three great Worthies in heaven (1906)

WORTHY, n.
A man of eminent worth; a man distinguished for useful and estimable
qualities; a man of valor; a word much used in the plural; as the
worthies of the church; political worthies; military worthies. – Noah
Webster 1828 Dictionary

Noah Webster Dictionary 1828, vol.2 p.942

In the name of whom were you baptized? You went down into the
water in the name of the three great Worthies in heaven—the
Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. In the name of the Father, and
of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost you were buried with Christ in
baptism; and you were raised up out of the water to live in newness of
life. You were to have a new life. You were to live unto God; you were
not to live unto yourself and keep yourself under your own supervision
for fear someone would touch you and hurt you. {Ms95-1906 (October
20, 1906) par. 13} (1906.10.20)
https://egwwritings.org/?ref=en_Ms95-1906.13&para=8872.19

Here is where the work of the Holy Ghost comes in, after your
baptism. You are baptized in the name of the Father, of the Son, and
of the Holy Ghost. You are raised up out of the water to live
henceforth in newness of life—to live a new life. You are born unto
God, and you stand under the sanction and the power of the three
holiest beings in heaven, who are able to keep you from falling. You
are to reveal that you are dead to sin; your life is hid with Christ in God.
Hidden “with Christ in God”—wonderful transformation. [Colossians
3:3.] This is a most precious promise. When I feel oppressed and hardly
know how to relate myself toward the work that God has given me to
do, I just call upon the three great Worthies, and say: You know I
cannot do this work in my own strength. You must work in me, and by
me, and through me, sanctifying my tongue, sanctifying my spirit,
sanctifying my words, and bringing me into a position where my spirit
shall be susceptible to the movings of the Holy Spirit of God upon my
mind and character. {Ms95-1906 (October 20, 1906) par. 29}
(1906.10.20)
https://egwwritings.org/?ref=en_Ms95-1906.29&para=8872.35

When you went down into the water and were baptized in the name
of the three great Worthies in heaven, you professed to be dead unto
the world. As a solemn token of your profession of faith, you were laid
under the water, in the sight of the heavenly universe, and were
baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Ghost. At that time, the apostle declares, “Ye are dead, and your life is
hid”—where?—“with Christ in God.” [Colossians 3:3.] He who
chooses to have a living connection with our Saviour will have a living
connection with our God; and he will exemplify the spirit of Christ in
life and character. {Ms145-1906 (November 3, 1906) par. 12}
(1906.11.03)
https://egwwritings.org/?ref=en_Ms145-1906.12&para=7426.18

Missionary work is to be done all through these cities. Lay right hold
of this missionary work. Yield not to discouragement. The power of
God will attend you because you have been baptized in the name of the
Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; and the names of these three
Worthies of heaven you can present as your power and efficiency. You
are to remain dead unto the world and alive unto God. May the Lord’s
blessing rest upon you, and may you have the comfort of His grace day
by day and finally shout the triumphs of victory in the kingdom of
glory. We can meet there. Oh, may God help us. I believe He
will. {Ms145-1906 (November 3, 1906) par. 59} (1906.11.03)
