ABDELRAZIG, AMRO AHMED

Assignment #1

1. Mary Schaefer, a coach, trainee, consultant, and owner of Artemis Path,

Inc., talks about the meaning of human resources.

- I thought when one talks about Human Resources, it is the department in

charge of recruiting people, handles the records of employees, the one that
takes corrective actions or punishments for employees who misbehave in the
workplace. I understand that employees have to be treated just and fair like
any other employee. Because one of the reasons I think why corporations are
experiencing high amount of turnovers is that employees, especially the
Millennials are feeling unappreciated in the workplace or they’re not a part
of the company since most of the time, employees who have worked there
for a very long time single new employees out that’s why they feel they
don’t belong.

- I saw that appreciating your employees or subordinates increases their

productivity a lot, because they feel they are part of something bigger, that
they are contributing to the whole organization or that their job is essential
in the workplace. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of
your clients.” When employees feel appreciated they get attached to those
who include them, they see that person as a role model or someone they
respect, they will go the extra mile or do the extra work without feeling
obligated that they have to. In my own assessment, these are the reasons
why an employee goes job hoping. Career development, a person wants to
excel in the industry so if they see an opportunity for development they grab
it. Higher Salary, most of us in the society wants a higher paycheck so that
we could afford better things or to secure our future. And lastly, The feeling
of being unappreciated at work, when an employee thinks they’re just doing
a 9-5 job they will not perform properly if they feel they’re not part of
something bigger, that they are not contributing to the betterment of the
organization.

2. Joe DeLoss, owner and founder of an ambitious, award-winning fried

chicken restaurant shares why human resources is more important than
fried chicken to their concept. His TEDx presentation shares an
insightful perspective about HR as an effective tool to break the cycle of
poverty while solving a debilitating economic crisis for employers.

- I thought that when starting a business the most important thing to know is
HOW to start a business and do research about the industry or business that
you plan on doing. But I think that it’s just as important to know and
understand your workforce, and how to treat them in a way that they are part
of the building blocks of your starting empire. Our employees should be our
best assets, because they are the ones taking care of our business. We should
focus on keeping our clients happy and our employees happier. It can reduce
poverty by keeping turnover lower and keeping a regular income for
workers.

- I saw in relation to what Joe Deloss discussed is that he loves his workforce
and that he creates jobs for those who are in dire need of it just to survive
their everyday lives, he served in a soup kitchen to feed the poor and got
inspired to correct what was creating that line instead of just helping to feed
the poor, he took proactive actions in dealing with the problem. That’s
what’s so inspiring about what Deloss said “We don’t judge people by their
past, we judge them by their future” believing in a person’s ability to be
more than what he/she is right now can go such a long way, it becomes their
inspiration that someone has faith in them and they aspire to be what that
person believes in them. He also mentioned that his workforce is mostly
those who has experienced poverty and he gives them a chance to improve
their current lifestyle by hiring them and making a connection with them. He
trusts those people even though there are risks to it, but at the same time he
is building his empire his workforce becomes the building blocks of his
company, they are his biggest asset at the end of the day.
