TASK ANALYSIS

Task Skill: Respiratory System Model

Pre-requisite skills and knowledge: Should understand how the respiratory and breathing

systems (Physical and Chemical Respiration) works

Materials and Resources: Two balloons (Large), two coiled neck straws, molding clay,

upper half of a 2L Soft Drink Bottle, 1 tape, 1 plastic bag and 1 large rubber band.

Stick the two straws together Straws, tape 2 mins
1 allowing the coiled neck to create
two separating branches (this is to
create the Trachea, and bronchi from
the two straws)

2 Affix the two large balloons, and

Place one on either ends at the coiled
regions of the straws (Branches)

Cut the 2L soft drink bottle in half,


3 discard of the bottom end and keep 2L Soft drink bottle 1 min
the top half.

Insert the balloons and straws from

allow the straws to exit at the Top half of 2L Bottle, 1 min

Using the molding clay, secure the


5 straw at the mouth of the bottle to Molding clay, 2L Bottle,
prevent external air from escaping or balloons, straws 3 mins
entering the model

6 Using the rubber band, secure the Plastic bag, rubber band,
plastic bag at the base of the bottle, balloons, straws, molding 2 mins
to create the diaphragm clay, 2L bottle
Once, the previous steps are
7 complete, blow into the straws to A Completed Model 2 mins
observe the mechanical changes
your body undertakes during
respiration.
