1-
This item indicates the status of the switchgear. It is recommended that it is always sent to a SCADA
system and displayed. It indicates in summary form the information which an operator can use to
determine if the switchgear is working correctly, if maintenance is required and if the local operator has

left the equipment in normal operating mode.

2- This data item is only available in configurations which support the Directional Blocking feature and will
always be '0' otherwise.
3- The phase designation A, B, C is determined by the user, refer to Switchgear Details section, Phase
Designation in the Switchgear Technical Manual.
4- The power flow direction (source/load designation) is determined by the user. See Binary Output "Power
Flow Direction" for control.
5- If no X side CVTs present then value will always be zero.

A.1.2Operator/Protection Flags for ACR

These flags show the status of the operator controls and the state of some of the protection settings, refer to
the Protection State Section. They are equivalent to the indications available on the Operator Control Panel
on the controller.

A.1.3Protection Trip Flags ACR

This group of points indicates what happened in the most recent protection sequence. For example the
recloser may have tripped, closed, tripped again and locked out. Or it may have tripped, closed and stayed
closed because the fault was cleared.

In both cases the flags below are set to show what caused of the trips and whether the lockout state has
been reached or not.

file://C:\Program Files\WSOS\DNPADVC\ADVC-PTCL-331.html 27/04/2012

Protocol Database for Automatic Circuit Reclosers With Advanced Controllers Page 10 of 75

A set of flags is available for each trip in a protection sequence.

Analog data is available which shows the fault currents during the sequence and how many trips occurred.
Refer A.2.6

Note: A sequence starts when there is a protection trip or a sequence advance.

Most of these flags are cleared by a protocol command, a switchgear trip/close by the operator, or when a
new protection sequence starts.

This data is volatile, i.e. it is zeroed on controller software reset.

If there is more than one protocol running simultaneously in the controller this data is replicated between the
protocols so that each master station can clear its data independently from the others.

A.1.4Distributed Automation Flags

These flags show the status of the operator controls for the Loop Automation and Auto-Changeover options.
Refer to the Distributed Automation section. They are equivalent to the messages displayed on the
controller's Operator Control Panel. These flags are only valid when the Loop Automation or Auto-
Changeover option is enabled for the current configuration and are always '0' otherwise.

the Switchgear Technical Manual.

A.2.2Voltage Measurements
Both Phase/(Earth/Ground) and Phase/Phase voltages are available (three phase switchgear only). Usually
the utility requires only one of these to be sent to the SCADA system.

Voltages are provided for all terminals with voltage measurement. The number of terminals with voltage
measurement varies depending on the model of switchgear, refer to the equipment manual. The phase
designation is assigned by the user. Refer to Switchgear Details section. The table below distinguishes
between the I and X sides of the switchgear, some models refer to the 1 and 2 sides (eg. A1, A2).

A.2.4SF6 Gas Pressure

Not all models of switchgear have gas pressure measurement.

Point 0 and 1 are the same measurement, just in different units. Normally only one is sent back to the
SCADA system.

The pressure is zeroed if switchgear data is invalid. Refer to Recloser and Controller State Flags section.

A.2.6Protection Sequence and Trip Data

These analog points record data about a protection sequence including maximum trip currents. They are
derived from the trip current events, as recorded in the event log and give the current for each phase and any
other enabled protecion element currents greater than the "Zero Amps Indicated" threshold.

Other data recorded includes the number of trips in the protection sequence and the Protection Group(s) that
were active at the start of the protection sequence.

Protection Sequence and Trip Data is cleared to zero by the following actions :-

"Reset fault flags and currents" control.

Any Operator Close or Trip action.
 Start of a new sequence.

When new values are stored, the event time stamp is the time of the end of the sequence to 10ms
resolution.

Similarly when the values are cleared the event is time tagged to 10ms resolution. Thus the time stamps
correspond to the digital time stamps in Appendix A.1.3.

This data is volatile, and are zeroed on controller software reset.

When the counters reach their max value, the next count will cause one of two actions; if the feature
"Counters Rollover ON" has been selected, then the counters rollover to one (1), else they 'stick' at the 'Max'

If a counter does wrap around then it can wrap out of sync with the other counters. Note that combinational
counters may also wrap independantly of what points they are made up of. Counters should be used as
independent values because of this.

Appendix A.5LBS Points Data

A.5.1Operator/Detection Flags for LBS
These flags show the status of the operator controls and the state of some of the protection, refer to the
Detection State section. They are equivalent to the indications available on the Operator Control Panel on
the controller. These flags are undefined on an ACR, see Operator/Protection Flags for ACR for the
equivalent ACR flags.

It may seem strange that points that do similar things on an ACR and LBS have been mapped twice.
However, experience has shown that the small differences in behaviour of the points have caused much
confusion both in the code and scada system in previous products. The cost to both the customer and
supplier is more than to maintain the points separately.

Protocol Database for Automatic Circuit Reclosers With Advanced Controllers Page 52 of 75

This group of points indicates what happened in the most recent fault detection. Unlike the ACR, these flags
don't attempt to reconstruct a fault sequence. The flags are not cumulative, they are cleared as each new
fault is detected. For example, if there is an earth fault followed by a phase fault, the earth fault flag will be
cleared when the phase fault flag is set.

In addition analogue data is available which shows the fault currents refer to Protection Sequence and Trip
Data Section A.2.6.

Most of these flags are cleared either by protocol command or when the switchgear is tripped/closed by the
operator or when a new fault is detected.

This data is volatile, i.e. it is zeroed on controller software reset.

If more than one protocol is running simultaneously in the controller, this data is replicated between the
protocols so that each master station can clear its data independently from the others.

This table is not valid for ACR, see 1 for ACR equivalent.

normal current is restored.

Appendix A.6LBS Analog Data

It may seem strange that points that do similar things on an ACR and LBS have been mapped twice.
However, experience has shown that the small differences in behaviour of the points have caused much
confusion both in the code and scada system in previous products. The cost to both the customer and
supplier is more than to maintain the points separately.

A.6.2Fault Detection Data

These analogue points record data about detected faults, including maximum fault currents. These are
derived from the Max Current events, which are recorded in the event log and record the current for each
phase and for earth/ground.

For any one fault more than one fault current can be set. For example a Phase/Phase fault might set an A-
Phase current and a B-Phase current.

Other data recorded includes the supply interrupt count and the Detection Group that was active at the start
of the fault detection sequence.

Fault Detection Data is cleared to zero by the following actions:-

"Reset Fault Flags and Currents" remote control command defined below.
Any Operator Close or Trip action.
 New fault detected.

The time stamps correspond to the digital time stamps in Detection Flags LBS section.

This data is volatile, and are zeroed on controller software reset.

If more than one protocol is running simultaneously in the controller, this data is replicated between the
protocols so that each master station can clear its data independently from the others.

Appendix B.1Digital Controls

These controls provide:-

The same controls which an operator can use on the first system status screen of the Operator Control
Panel of the controller
Additional controls specific to the protocol such as "reset fault flags and currents".

Changes to protection are made by selecting a different active Protection Group in the same way an operator
makes changes.

Changes to a selection of protection features are provided for operational purposes. Changes to the main
configuration parameters of the protection are not permitted over the protocol. This is done either at the
control panel itself or by using the WSOS program that is specifically designed for the task.
