The Future of Work

DIAPOSITIVO 1
Good morning! Today we’re going to talk about the future of work and
how robots will impact the future workforce.

DIAPOSITIVO 2
Robots have been applied in labour since the Industrial Revolution (19th
and 18th centuries) and many wonder about how their evolution through
time will influence the labour force in the future.

DIAPOSITIVO 3
Do you think that new technologies could cause mass unemployment?
We’ll present two perspectives on the subject.

DIAPOSITIVO 4
The first states that new technologies will harm the labour market.
From this point of view, robots will reduce the number of jobs where
human force is required (factory workers, drivers or even dentists, for
example), causing the unemployment to grow exponentially.
In addition, humans cannot compete with robots in the various areas,
since these are specifically designed to achieve a level close to perfection.
Here are some facts that support this theory.
(ler os factos)

DIAPOSITIVO 5
The second point of view argues that robots will actually eliminate some
jobs but also create others that will make up for that loss.
For example: in the future, there will be needed people to monitor, fix and
program robots, among other jobs.
Furthermore, this theory argues that this anxiety about the control of
technology has already existed in the past (in the 1920s to 1930s and
1950s to 1960s) and that, despite popular belief, employability has never
decreased. In fact, it has even increased.
The need for human work remained constant throughout the years.

DIAPOSITIVO 6
In conclusion, we will never know what will actually happen.
On the one hand, machines can develop in such a way that they replace
people in various essential jobs.
On the other hand, these can evolve towards performing simple tasks,
enabling human capacities to be used in new professions.
Only the future will tell.

Fazer a conclusão.
