In video 2, Julian Treasure state a few elements that can be used as efficient ways to attract
people to listen up on what we are trying to say. The first element is that, we must avoid seven
deadly sins in speaking. It is gossips, judging, spreading negative outlook, complaining which leads
to achieving nothing, excuses that clearly passing problems of the world to everyone else, lying
and dogmatism that defined as mixing up the falsehood with the facts. We are freely to talk about
what we want to express to others but we have to consider and know our limit of talking. Words
are mightier than a sword, we should realize that sometimes our words had the ability to hurt
others. When we are talking, try to spread all the positivity as much as we can in our speech. Stop
judging people and listen what they are trying to say. By doing this, other people will listen when
we are speaking. Next element is the four foundations that can make our speech become powerful.
When we speak, we have to be honest. Make sure all the content that we want to speak are true
and clear facts. Our attitude is the most important elements when we are speaking. Audience are
not only listening to the speech but they also see the personality of the person who are giving out
his or her wisdom. So, we must be a man of integrity whom keep our words and always spread the
love to all people. In this video also teach us how to increase the power of speaking by using a few
tools. The content of tools that can be used to talk which register, timber, prosody, pace, pitch and
volume. We can apply a different tone when we are speaking to the crowds. We can use a high or
low intonation or speak a little bit fast in order to make sure that they will pay an attention by
those attractive catchy sounds. Sometime silent also can be put in our speech to catch our
audience attention. Before initiating our speech, Julian Treasure suggests the speaker to do some
simple voice and lips warm ups to make sure that we are ready to deliver a speech like a champ.
The motives are to get the speakers ready before they give out their speech to the audience. This
comprises breathing techniques, making some unique noises with lips, such as lalala and
‘raspberries’, on the tongue, practising a rolled ‘r’ in a few moments, and moving through the
different channel range of voice pitch. By using these great methods in our speech, we can make
people listen attentively to what we would like to present, increase good impression and also will
boost up our confident to talk in front of people.
In conclusion, based on the two videos of ted talk. The first video has shown to us about
‘How I overcome my fear of public speaking’ by Danish Dhamani. So, we know that public speaking
is a form of communication to share thoughts and wisdom to many others people. A very well
preparation through numerous practices, training, application of speech technique can overcome
one’s fear of speaking in front of large numbers of crowds or even a group of small number of
people and increase their confident level towards the speech and leads to a very a success
speaking performance. We must believe that each of us can always become a good speaker if we
keep on practising the tips that Danish Dhamani to us. While other videos are how to speak so that
people want to listen by Julian Treasure. We can learn to apply effective communication so that
the listeners would avoid any interference during a speaker’s session to get the right message
delivered to the whole audience. By following the guidelines from Julian Treasure, it can help
individuals drive conversations and speech in ways that are meaningful, thoughtful and attract the
audience to listen on our speech attentively. Both videos are amazing sharing of experiences and
knowledge that the content delivered by the two excellent and experienced speakers that would
help us to make a self-transformation, transition in our normal way of speaking and giving out
speech at mass and improve on our norm speech. We must always actively practicing having a
great engagement with the audience and having that grit of relentless self-improvement or in
Japanese tradition called as “Kaizen” that could be translated as constant improvement in our
skills.
